Seated Box Jumps

My relationship with box jump started out pretty wobbly. But eventually, I conquered my fear of them, and jumping on stuff became one of my favorite things to do.

To date, my box jump adventures have included showing you my box jump face, confessing my affection for burpee box jumps, and celebrating a box jump PR.

Today — thanks to a tweet from Jen Sinkler — I discovered a tempting new variation: seated box jumps. They look awesomely horrible and horribly awesome. And I’m trying them tomorrow at the craptastic. (See all my posts about box jumps right here!)

Burpee Legs, Baby

Saturday morning, I woke up in just enough time to squeeze in a little Backyard Workout before heading off to Hatha Star yoga. Even though...

I’m thinking once tired you’ll end up punching yourself in the head with a dumbbell.

They’re fantastic. My coach sometimes has us do a workout where we do around 6 rounds of either front or back squat (usually 3 reps @ 70-80% max) followed by 3 seated max height box jumps. 30 secs rest between rounds. It burns so good!

    OMG!!

I just hope your workout clothes fit better. I kept waiting for that guy to trip over his shorts. 😉

They look killer! Personally, I need to work on regular box jumps before I attempt this. I can lift Herculean amounts of weight. Running and jumping? Not so much.

Ouch! But what the hell? I might have to try them too 🙂

Let us know how they go! After hearing from you, I just may have the courage to try them myself. I love your blog Mel. Keep up the great work.

Yay! Those look disgusting. I can’t wait to try them 🙂

I hope my CF gym does not see this video 😉

Saturday Update: When we went to the craptastic gym to lift and try seated box jumps this a.m., they were closed. CLOSED! Turns out those slackers don’t open until 9:00 on Saturday, and that’s when our yoga class is. So… no seated box jumps for me until Monday. Will report back then!

They are great–a huge help for working on that “hip pop” CF coaches are always talking about for Oly lifts. So pop those hips to get up! Plus, you feel super bad ass doing them.

Okay, I hate to be a downer, but since I am a fellow not-so-keen on box jumper, I have to confess that I hated seated box jumps. I couldn’t make myself do them higher than the 20″ box…it was definitely mental, as I watched my 16 year old son go higher than 32″ with no problem. I really, really struggled with them. Hope you have a different experience.

P.S. Tried your mayo recipe today (got your book a few weeks ago)…thanks so much…tried a squeeze bottle for the olive oil…it worked like a charm.

    • Mel says:

Not a downer at all! I fully expect that seated box jumps are going to be terrifying and that I might eat it on my first attempt. Can’t wait! 🙂

Congrats on the mayo. It’s fun to have it handy for kitchen playtime.
