Win a Subscription to Experience Life

UPDATE 2/227/12: We have two winners: Congratulations to Linda and Mona H.! Here’s what they had to say in their drawing entries:

Linda: “I think I will always be working on my best self.  When is a work of beauty (inside and out) ever “DONE”? This is a journey, which I’ve learned to appreciate by living within each moment and being kind, gentle and loving with myself. Strict rules, guilt, and beating myself up for not being “good” are a thing of the past, but the learning and growing will continue, I hope, until the day I leave this lovely Earth.”

Mona H.: “I am happy to say I now have a good relationship with real food.  My little kiddos are fast becoming my teachers when it comes to life wisdom! Now I just need to tackle the fit body thing.”

Part of the reason I started The Clothes Make The Girl was because I felt so left behind by most print magazines — betrayed by publications that purported to be about fitness and health, but were really fashion magazines shoving the same stereotyped ideal of beautiful down my dino-chow lovin’ throat.

Imagine my delight when I flipped through my first issue of Experience Life magazine! The people in its pages are attractive, sure, but they also look real. Fit. Healthy. Glowing. And the articles! The editorial takes a wholistic approach that includes nutrition (and not the same old-same old of the food pyramid, either), meditation, yoga, hardcore strength training, and general life advice. Plus, there’s the whole Revolutionary Act thing.

Just take a look at some of the stories in the recent issue, and you’ll be hooked, too.Find Your Fitness Passion

Plus lots of fun new products, an in-depth look at mushrooms, and tons more.

  • Lisa says:

I think healthy eating is now a habit, hardly any thought about it. But Life Wisdom? No way. I find myself slipping into old habits that end up adding stress and craziness to life, and have to take a deep breath and reset. At least I’m not taking it out in donuts! I’d love a subscription!

  • Liz says:

Fit body….doing pretty well on that. But life wisdom…I need some serious work on that bucket!

  • Adam Kayce says:

I can’t say I’ve got Healthy Eating and Life Wisdom “nailed”, but they’re pretty close to great — much closer than ever before.

The one to work on this year is definitely Fit Body. I’ve been dialing it back to basics, and trying to build up slow, to rehab nagging injuries, reset imbalances, and embrace the “slow is fast” mindset. (Trying to “get in shape quick” has only wrecked me and slowed me down!)

  • MJ says:

I’d say healthy eating is one thing I’ve got down, although I must also place the caveat that I’m still working on it (work in progress kind of thing), but either way I’m definitely better than I was one year ago. This year, I am working toward “Fit Body,” which admittedly is clicking in so much more easily with the healthy eating bit nailed down! Of course, wellness and life wisdom I think are always things to be pursued… Thanks for the opportunity!

  • Libby says:

I am making progress on the fit body… I have been eating a paleo/primal diet for about a year so feel that I have healthy eating down.
This year I really want to work on Wellness and Fit body! 🙂

  • Healthy eating is definitely in the bag– I make all of our food from scratch, and most is organic and locally sourced. I am lucky to live in a place with excellent access to these ingredients. But I really want to work on my fitness this year– I re-tore my ACL last summer, and had surgery in November. I am still working back up to more activity (no sprints for a few more months) and want to find a sport to really get into.
    Thanks for an awesome giveaway!

  • Raye says:

Honestly? I wouldn’t say that I have any of these down. All of them will forever allow room for improvement. The one that I’m focused on this year is Wellness, specifically with regards to self-love and self-care while I endure and embrace the trials of medical school.

  • Gail says:

probably healthy eating is the one thing i own, even though it’s often a case of two steps forward, one step back. (still wrestling with the sugar demon – i know i’ll win eventually, but it’s been one hell of a fight up till now.) i’m working towards a fit body, loving my kettlebells, but still a ways to go (again, that sugar demon!).

  • Shelly says:

I don’t think I have any of them nailed! I’m working on healthy eating and doing well. This year I want to start on fit body. I’ve already started on wellness!

  • Carmen says:

That magazine sounds great! Like you I ditched most other mags awhile ago. I hope I still qualify if I don’t have one of those down… working really hard on the fit body and healthy eating – been paleo for about 2 months now and am loving it!
Thanks so much for your great blog!

  • Susan Sullivan says:

Feel like I have the hang of Healthy Eating and am definitely focusing on Fit Body this year!

  • Joanna says:

I think I have Health Eating semi-nailed… At least I can make better choices now! I definitely need to work on Wellness- specifically mental wellness- this year. Wedding planning can take its toll!

  • Liv says:

Healthy Eating has become such second nature at this point it’s something I no longer have to put a lot of thought into. Simplifying things into real food vs. not real food made all the difference.

Life Wisdom however… continues to elude me! My plans for this year are to really piece apart the origin of my unhealthy habits and learn new coping mechanisms instead of just allowing myself to slip into familiar, yet destructive, habits.

  • Jeannette Keep says:

I’ve come along long way with eating healthy. By being a student of the Paleo lifestyle I am now 90% Paleo.

I work hard at a fit body every day and especially when I do Crossfit. I believe eating healthy is 80% of having a fit body and exercise is a hard 20%.

Life wisdom is just that…a lifetime of learning about anything!! New things and even old things…I read and learn so much. Even when talking to others I learn a super amount if information that I didn’t know yesterday.

Wellness is something that you must work on each day and do your best to stay well within yourself and being able to open yourself to new and even old ideas or ways.

  • Christine says:

I need to work on all of them. I have been working out and just started the healthy eating.

  • Victoria says:

I would definitely say I got the healthy eating down – at least the healthy cooking. Sometimes I fall down when I eat out, but rarely.

I’m certainly focusing on the Fit Body this year though (as I did last year, but still not there yet).

  • Ashley says:

For me, it’s not a matter of not having the Wisdom to eat healthy and workout. I know it’s good for me and I even know what I need to do to accomplish my goals…I just have a hard time sticking to my guns, so to speak. So, for me, I need to work on applying my (vast, haha) wisdom to my life in a tangible way. As in, Stop Thinking and Just Do it Already!!

  • Svend says:

To think I have any of these four areas nailed is foolhardy. They’re all a work in progress.

  • pamela says:

This is a bit hard to admit with all the emphasis on activity and movement and crossfit, but a fit body is what I really, really, really need to work on.

My diet is dialed in, wellness is pretty good, and life wisdom is in decent shape. Strength and an active lifestyle is my weakness.

  • Christa says:

Melissa, I am always inspired by your blog. These are great questions to ask ourselves. A fit body, healthy eating, life wisdom and wellness are all certainly things I strive for. I have better days, weeks, months years, than others. Right now my whole family has bronchitis so I would say the wellness scale has tipped unfavorablly, but wisdom is high right now. I am 41 years old, grateful for the choices I make, happy about how I am raising my sons, thankful for my marriage and making some really great lasting friendships. It takes wisdom to stop and recognize what is good, right here, right now, like this blog. Thanks.

  • JennF says:

I think I’ve got the Healthy Eating bit down – I know what I’m doing and new eating situations don’t throw me for a loop any more.

However, Life Wisdom is still eluding me. I’m creeping up on forty and have finally figured out what I want to do with my life, but don’t know quite how to get there yet!

  • Jay says:

I’d be hard-pressed to say that I have any of these “nailed,” but if forced to choose, I’m doing best at Healthy Eating. I’ve had that dialed in to about 95% Paleo for almost two months now.

I know for sure I could use the most work on Fit Body. Only in the past few weeks have I started incorporating any real exercise into my lifestyle, and if those sessions are to be used as a baseline for the current fitness of my body, I have a long ass way to go!!

  • Paul says:

As a philosopher, I’d like to say I have “Life Wisdom” nailed but since wisdom is always growing, I’d prefer to say I have “Love of Life Wisdom” nailed. 🙂

Still working on the other three, and making the most progress on “Healthy Eating”. I want to make more progress on that as a lead-in to “Wellness” and a “Fit Body”.

  • Lori welsh says:

Im working on nailing down the Paleo lifestyle! So far so good.

  • Mel says:

Wellness & Fit body go hand-in-hand: I just had an analysis from my homeopath that I have adrenal fatigue, so I am on a new regimen of supplements, and I am changing my exercise pattern from strictly Crossfit to powerlifting, and with some Pilates thrown in for good measure.

Good eating needs to be cleaned up (we’ve almost got a stove again as we work through a kitchen remodel!).

Life wisdom? That’s when my mom calls and tells me to do something, I don’t listen, and then later I regret not following her advice, much to her amusement. 🙂

  • Jamie says:

For the most part, I’ve got Healthy Eating good….for meals. I find I still mindlessly snack in the evenings (there’s only Paleo food in the house, but I really don’t need two handfuls of walnuts…). Goal for this year is Fit Body – I’ve got a good base of exercise (CrossFit and ice hockey) and once I conquer the snacking, the Fit Body should follow.

  • Treefit says:

Wow, that’s a tough one. I don’t think I have any of them “nailed”. Life Wisdom is an ever evolving growth from life experience. I will say that I am much wiser now than I was when I was younger. 🙂 I’m still fairly new to the Paleo lifestyle, which includes wellness and fitness. It hasn’t been a year yet and I still feel like I have so much more to learn. The best thing is that I keep working on all the aspects and I’ll eventually get where I want to be.

  • Karly says:

Well, I don’t have anything “down” yet, but healthy eating comes pretty easy to me. It’s the self-discipline I struggle with! And, I definitely need to work on the fit body. One thing at a time…. 🙂

Thanks for the chance!! Love your blog!

  • Leah says:

I think I’ve got wellness in the bag currently. I’d like to say I really want to work on the fit body this year, but really I need to work on all of it to maintain!

  • Mer says:

I think I’ve got healthy eating down. I know the basics and have made strides in changing my relationship with food in habit and psychologically.

I’d like to work on fit body this year. In addition to roller derby, I’ve started lifting weights at my box gym to try to build lean muscle–helps with health and derby performance!

  • Kimberly says:

    Hi Mel –
    – Fit Body: I think I have nailed this life bucket (mostly) because I have come farther in CrossFit than I ever thought I would. Although I still have much to learn, I am so proud of where I already am!
    – Wellness: (encompasses all four life buckets, I think) is the one I need to work on ths year. I don’t want to settle for what I used to consider “well”. I want to set the bar higher for myself and really, really be well – inside and out. I think getting there requires working on the other life buckets as well… especially the healthy eating.

  • April says:

I’d say that I have Healthy Eating nailed down… while I do occasionally eat something that’s not low-carb/paleo I’d say I’m at 90/10 which is better than most people can say!

The Fit Body one is definitely where I need work- I’ve lost 40 of the 60 pounds that I need to lose, and so now is the point where things get tough. But my ultimate goal is to make my body stronger. I know that the healthy eating makes up 80% of weight loss, so I wanted to get that down pat first!

  • Michelle says:

I would say I have the healthy eating pretty much down (on most days!). Fit body would be my biggest goal for the coming year because I have really let my workouts slide since my work schedule has picked up.

  • Kate says:

Fit body, check. Life wisdom, I wish! This year some crazy changes are happening, and I can only hope I learn some valuable life wisdom along the way.

  • Mindy says:

I’ve worked really hard on Wellness the last few years–I was a 235 lb sugar/starch-addict breast cancer patient, and now am a 56-yr-old 134 lb YMCA-certified group fitness instructor 🙂 I eat well (REAL food), and do several fun forms of exercise–hula hOOp class, anyone?–for both physical & mental health. I’m still working on Life Wisdom–and believe I will never truly “get there” because life is a process & a journey, but want to be deliberate about growing in this area this year! (I ADORE your cookbook, btw–making Cauliflower Rice Pilaf tonight!)

  • Autumn says:

I’ve got the fit body figured out, but definitely need to work on the life wisdom and wellness — mental stress and overscheduling are definitely my biggest challenges for this year.

  • Carey says:

I won’t pretend to have life wisdom in the bag, but I generally understand and recognize how things could be improved in various aspects of my life well before I can integrate them (like many of us, right?). And wisdom seems to be an inner-knowing we all carry around and just have to tune in to more often.

I’m still working on healthy eating and allowing my wisdom to guide me- still don’t have it down, but boy have I come a long way! And I owe much of that to Paleo. So grateful to have stumbled upon it!

  • Heather says:

I’m pretty sure these are all things that will be part of a lifelong journey! I am not at my version of fit body but I am on the right path. Life Wisdom, that definitely needs some work!

  • Liat says:

I am the closest to getting healthy eating nailed thanks to some wonderful recipe sources!!

A fit body on the other hand would be really great. One of my major goals is to do an unassisted pullup. Handstanding in yoga would be quite fun too!

  • Janna says:

Since starting Paleo 8 weeks ago, I feel like we definitely have the food part nailed down. Its been smooth sailing and no temptation to cheat at all. The fit body part though…we just arent really sure where to start with that! We are walking everyday, and starting to do some body weight workouts, but I know there is so much more we could do!

  • Renatusik says:

I think I’m doing really good with my healthy eating. I’m always going for “good for me” food because I know that will help me to stay healthy and well balanced. But I wish I would have more life wisdom …

  • Ceej says:

I feel like I have a handle on overall Wellness, but I probably won’t ever be confident in my Life Wisdom. The older I get, the less I think I know for sure.

  • Working on Fitbody and have gotten very good at Healthy Eating!

  • Emily says:

I think they all need work!

  • Kelsey says:

I’ve got the nutrition and fitness dialed in (although I would like to continue to get stronger), but I think the biggest things for me are overall wellness. I would like to improve on sleep, taking care of myself, active recovery and crosstraining.

And of course I, being only 20 years old, have LOTS to improve on when it comes to Life Wisdom. Which just means I’ve got more livin’ to get to!

  • Sonya says:

I was in a religious cult for 10+ years. The extraction process was long and excruciating. It taught me quite a bit about “life wisdom” and those experiences have made me a much more balanced person these days.

Last year Whole9 and your blog helped with the healthy eating immensely! 🙂

This year my focus is on developing that “Fit Body” to go with the rest of the package.

  • M Ward says:

Although I’m not as fit as I could be, being fit is now the easiest part of my life. I’ve got a good balance of pushing myself and recovering, making steady gains. The only thing stopping me from going farther is my constant struggle with healthy eating. I know what to do, but I have a hard time doing it, so that’s what I really need to work on.

  • Jenni Eisenberg says:

I think I’ve got the fit body part nailed…at least as far as effort goes. Still a work in progress, but I’m doing the right things.

  • Jenni Eisenberg says:

I think I’ve got the fit body part nailed…at least I’m doing all the right things. It’s a work in progress. I need to improved on the healthy eating part…I do really well for days and weeks on end…then in one day I go nuts. Need to learn how to cheat just a little, not a lot!

  • Tricia says:

Can you have Life Wisdom if you haven’t nailed the others? In all honesty, I think I do best with that–in any given situation, I think I can provide some insight and guidance, even for myself. Now if I could just FOLLOW that guidance and get to the Wellness!

  • AustinGirl says:

I get better with healthy eating every day. Wellness is something I’m doing better at too. I think the fit body part is what I’m working the hardest towards, since I started making healthy eating choices over a year ago, and didn’t focus so much on fitness back then. Heh…and the “wisdom” part has a ways to go too…I’m only 32, so I’m just starting to realize how much I DON’T know!

  • Dawn says:

I’ll be working on life wisdom. Now that I am a mother for the first time, I have a lot of new things to learn! I think I am doing pretty well in the healthy eating department, though I can’t say I have it nailed. Mainly because I sometimes make choices that I know aren’t good for me.

I agree — Experience Life is one of the few health magazines out there worth reading these days.

  • Jenny Tinjum says:

Fit body down…I am in the best shape of my life.
Healthy Eating…let’s stop the cycle of guilt binges and realize it is ok to spurge in moderation sometimes!

  • Kate says:

I think I’ve got parts of all of them down, and would like to improve all of them too – I feel like they’re all so linked! When one falls by the wayside, for me, the others do too.

  • Shani says:

Thanks for sharing a great resource! I’m going for the fit body as an area to work on, perhaps adding in more yoga. Healthy eating is under control- made easy when I can find delicious recipes (Well Fed = YUM!). I’m convinced that Sunshine Sauce really does make my day better.

  • Erin Sutten says:

I think my top two things to work on right now are healthy eating and fit body. These things have been a continual struggle for me and I’m feeling like I am finally getting into a new life rythym so that I can maintain my current momentum.

  • Alicia K says:

My Fit Body is on the right track, I’m starting another Whole40 for lent so I’ve got the Healthy Eating going for me, but I do struggle with overall Wellness, especially mental wellness. I think we are constantly learning so my Life Wisdom is ongoing 🙂 What a great giveaway! Thanks!

  • Julie says:

I think I’ve got the healthy eating down now, and I just need more time to pass before my body gets down to its appropriate size. My challenge is finding a work-life-health balance to do all the things I’d like to do. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Michele says:

I am a work in progress for all 4 of the big life buckets. Just completed my first paleo challenge, which was truly life changing. Treating my health as equally or more important than my other commitments is my goal for this year.

  • Kerry V says:

For me, every bucket is a work in progress. Some days I have a better understanding/handle on helathy eating. Other days I have a better handle on wellness. I feel that I am always evolving as a person and not a perfectionist!!

  • Ann Marie says:

Healthy eating – I’m there! Life wisdom – there, but always with room to grow more. A fit body is what I need to work on this year!

  • Brandie says:

Wellness I believe I have down it isnt just your body that needs to be taken care of and treated right by eating and exercising healthy, but also your mind and soul need a good amount attention and feeding too. MIND BODY SOUL!!!

Life wisdom I have learned is a collection, every year an experience, adventure, family, friends teach me something new about myself, others and the world. Applying them in my life is a challenge and sometimes hard, but fun and exciting too!

  • Geri Lynn says:

I think I finally have a good handle on healthy eating- I started with Atkins and then discovered Paleo/dino 🙂 and WOW it’s sooo much easier to eat healthy now. And I feel a zillion times better!

What I absolutely need to work on this year is Fit Body, I have become such a couch potato! And it’s sooo totally not me, ya know? I haven’t yet found the motivation that lifts me up and gets me moving.

    Thanks for this!

  • Melissa says:

I have healthy eating nailed since I am hardcore paleo following the autoimmune protocol. I am working on wellness – because what brought me to paleo was multiple autoimmune diseases. I am MUCH better now, since I have found the paleo way, but I am working on curing (yes, curing), these autoimmune issues I have. I love to read, and I love a good magazine. I get so irritated when I see a health magazine that says “eat healthy whole grains” – considering that is primarily what made me so sick in the first place! 🙂

  • Sean Booth says:

I’ve got Healthy eating down pat by this time. What I’m working on now is the fit body. I’m hoping to have that taken care of by this time next year or at least be well on my way.

  • Marie Skovlund says:

Life Wisdom.. can I say “nailed”? Part of nailing that one is KNOWING that learning comes constantly and I will NEVER know it all… so I can never get bored with anything! The Fit body is really what I’m working on. My left shoulder has been injured so getting fit is really going to take some time, hard work, and pain. I have two sons that are Army Rangers, so this magazine would be WELL READ!

  • katy says:

I think I can use help with all of these at the moment!!

  • Tricia says:

I’ve finally got healthy eating nailed down. Its the others I think I can use some help with. Sounds like a great magazine, checking it out now…

  • Gabrielle says:

Oh dear… I’d say I have a long way to go on most of these and I’m not confident I could claim to have any “nailed”. However years of struggling with serious illness, treatment & following therapy have definitely left me high up in the life wisdom halls of knowledge. Hasn’t been pleasant but I know I’m emotionally far ahead of my peers in experiencing the extremes of life. Healthy eating is down pat – the theory aspect that is – as for in practice… still working on it. The one I really want to tackle is fit body… but that could be for slightly superficial reasons and after reading all the wonderful posts from the book discussion of The Gifts Of Imperfection, I think to be honest to myself it is Wellness that is the more important area I need to give attention.

  • Tara says:

I’m not sure I have any of these “nailed,” but I have definitely made some great strides lately on the “Healthy Eating” front (thanks in large part to my first Whole30!). This year, I’m really interested in working on overall wellness–getting my nutrition, sleep, exercise, and recovery dialed in so that I spend as much time as possible feeling healthy and ready to take on whatever life brings me. Last year was definitely NOT a “well” year for me, so I’m determined to make a change!

Looks like a great magazine, so if I don’t win a free subscription, I might have to buy one. Thanks for the recommendation!

  • Ed says:

Healthy eating – been primal for almost two months now and living large! losing weight easily and feeling great…

  • Norris says:

Life Wisdom, I feel I’ve had for years and years. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff. Don’t worry that my body doesn’t look like pictures in the media. Enjoy my food. Appreciate the biggest and smallest of wonders. Always keep on learning.

It was the desire to keep on learning that influenced me to download the RevAct iPhone app after I read an article recommending it. I fell in love with the app and spent many nights going through the suggestions and articles. This was how I discovered Experience Life magazine. I’ve never held or seen an actual print copy but I feel I have so much to thank this magazine for.

I think for years, I shied away from exercising regularly because I thought doing so was boring and would make other people think that I’m ashamed of my body. Experience Life magazine and RevAct has helped me realize that my perception of myself (as a non-exerciser), my fear (of how people will view me), and my mindset (that exercise was boring and hard) was what was holding me back from doing something for myself that would actually make me feel more energized and empowered in life. Fit Body is what I am working on this year. I choose to do this because I love myself and what my body can accomplish : ). I would love to get a free subscription to the magazine just so I can share it with my friends!

  • kell says:

this is an amazing offer! i love this magazine and so wish it was more mainstream – i am usually scouring the magazine racks, hoping someone will have a odd copy here or there. a subscription would be perfet!! i am not sure i can say i have any of those “nailed” down – but i certainly think working towards ‘life wisdom’ will help to organically allow each of the other categories to fall into place! thanks again for the opportunity, it would be a much needed help

  • Melinda Nickas says:

Of all of them, I think Fit Body is the most nailed down for me. I love working out and being strong — never in a million years did I think I’d enjoy slamming a medicine ball or lifting a barbell over my head. I am pretty good about eating, but there are always temptations (currently it’s the Girl Scout cookie).

Wellness and Life Wisdom are the slowest to catch up with me. I really wish I could get off the skinny = best mindset, but it’s hard, even at 43. So I will work on appreciating all that I can do and want to accomplish and try really hard to stop torturing myself over how I think I look! Thank you for giving me a minute to put it all into perspective.

  • Virginia says:

As a fairly fit soon-to-be-sixty year old, I can attest to the fact that you are never too old to learn new and better ways of living life. I am easing into Paleo (steel cut oats and quinoa still need to go)and I exercise (road cycling, power walking, and weights).

I need to begin looking ahead to retirement in 5-6 years and my life beyond the workaday world. This magazine looks to be a good resource for living a better life now. Something I can definitely use.

  • I’m working on all four areas and don’t know that I’ve mastered them and consider myself a student still. I’ve lost 95 lbs over the last three years and my eating and working out has improved a thousand times over from what it used to be. Now I work on maintaining and expanding my knowledge. I am a blogger for The Daily Spark and my articles come out every Thusday at http://www.dailyspark.com. I’ve never seen this magazine, and would love to win it and review it.

  • Anna says:

I’ve got healthy eating pretty well covered (although still plenty to learn and adapt!) but a truly fit body is something that comes and goes for me. I need to settle into good exercise habits that work with the rest of my life, and that’s my goal for the coming year. I’m hoping that working on my body will help me work towards general wellness and mindfulness too.

  • Sarah says:

I could use a little help in all these areas but the one I feel I’m closest to nailing is fit body. The one I would like to work on is Life Wisdom. I’m entering in to my second year as a mother and hope to gain more wisdom to pass on to my child.

  • Lisa says:

I’m happy with where I am on wellness, but would really like to work on fit body.

  • deb says:

Fit body is a work in progress but better than ever at 52! I work on my Life Wisdom skills every moment of every day! I believe we all do! Been testing out my Paleo wings….getting closer to achieving a perfect altitude!

  • Lindsay says:

I don’t think I have any of these nailed! My goal this year is a combination of fit body and healthy eating–I don’t think you can really separate them very well, and now that I’m not a stressed out law student I have a lot more capability to address these issues.

  • leah b says:

HMMMM. . . the healthy eating is the easy one for me. I’m going to say wellness is what I need to work on most. That place where mind, body, spirit come together to make your life can be a difficult one to find. I’d love to see the magazine and get their take on these things!

  • Michelle says:

Healthy eating is the closest to nailed that it’s ever been. I’m throwing all my effort into Wellness this year.

  • NicoleK says:

I would say that I feel good with our healthy eating, and even life wisdom! Always room for improvement but I do feel like they are a constant dialog with my family and friends. As a mom to young boys, I’m proud of myself for slowing things way down and finding a wonderful family balance. My “fit body” has been put on hold and I’m fine with that (we are a crazy active family who loves to play hard!) but I know that next school year when my youngest is in kindergarten, I will be able to focus My Fit Body!

  • marianne says:

I’m a work in progress. I say I have healthy eating down pertty good. Always needs imporvment. This year I really want life wisdoms and wellness. Lifing my life fullest. I’m used to surviving. I want to learn how to “live life!”

  • Katie says:

I’ve got healthy eating DOWN, but I really need to work on the wellness. In all aspects of my life, but especially as it relates to balance.

  • Julie says:

I’ve got the fit body thing down – love exercise and rest! Just changing my eating, so that is my focus for this year.

  • Tami C. says:

    Nailed: none. Need work: all.

  • Katie Flint says:

I think there is always room for improvement in all of these areas but I do feel like I’ve come a long way with my overall Wellness (mind, body, spiritual balance) and my Health Eating habits, while I slip back occasionally, I’ve seen huge improvements from where I used to be (Mt. Dew and carb heavy meals begone!). Definitely working on taking my Fit Body to the next level–I am a regular exerciser through weight lifting classes and some cardio–but I want to push myself further! And I could always use some more Wisdom!

  • Jill says:

Fit body would be my area to work on, but part of that comes from needing healthy eating. I do pretty good most of the time, but when I fall, it tends to be hard. BUT if I stay away from grains, I don’t fall nearly as hard.

  • Brittany says:

I’d say I have Healthy Eating down pat – I fully embrace and believe in the Paleo lifestyle, despite the challenges it throws my way. The best part of this change is knowing that strong, smart, sexy people like you and Dallas and Melissa are its most ardent supporters – how could I walk away from this?

I definitely need to work on Wellness this year, and it’s something that I’ve recently addressed by making some major decisions. I’m looking forward to a happier, more holistic me!

  • Laura says:

I have healthy eating down, but am still (and will forever?) strive towards wellness, fit body, and life wisdom!

  • Carine says:

Thanks of the giveaway, first of all!
Nailed? Not sure… it’s a constant work in progress, no?
To work on: Fit body, Healthy eating.

  • Kristy says:

    What I’ve got nailed:

    — Fit body: After several knee surgeries to mend torn ACL’s, I realized I needed to get really serious about strength conditioning. I’ve been going to CrossFit for almost 11 months now, and I also run and bike. And as a former college athlete, I still have the “bug” for my sport of choice: soccer (despite its war against my knees!); as such I continue to play in a few co-ed soccer leagues on the weekend. (Hey, soccer is about experiencing life for me, and I can’t imagine giving it up. By the way, pun intended. Hope it gets extra points!) The bottom line is that I feel stronger than ever and really confident that my training plays a role in preventing future knee injuries.

    — Healthy eating: As a CrossFitter, I made the switch to eating a paleo diet last year, and I feel great. Plus, I’ve managed to rub off a bit on my friends. Even if they don’t eat paleo all the time, they still get together with me once a month for a big paleo potluck dinner. My latest obsession is coconut manna – and I never thought I’d find a spread as good as Nutella!

What I’d like to continue to work on this year:

    — Life wisdom: I’m only 26 so I’d like to think it’s OK if I don’t have this one nailed yet. I think I’ve learned a lot in the nearly four years since I’ve been out of college and in the real world, but I have more to learn about developing and maintaining healthy relationships, and going after and obtaining my dreams as they relate to my career. Goals for 2012 are to continue to nourish relationships with good friends and family, and to take a class I’ve been meaning to take that will take me a step closer to my ultimate career goals.

    — Wellness: I think I’m doing well tackling the “fit body” and “healthy eating” buckets, but I know there is more I can do for total wellness. For example, I don’t get enough sleep. I manage five or six a night if I’m lucky, when I know I should really strive for seven or eight. I’d also like to try bikram yoga as a way to both increase my flexibility and release stress. Good thing I just bought a 10-class trial!

  • Joy says:

I’m a breast cancer survivor and am trying to change my life so I don’t get this disease again. Experience Life sounds like it would be a great way to supplement all the books and things I’ve found on the internet about living a healthy lifestyle.

  • Dania R. says:

Healthy eating. Check. I’m not the pinnacle of perfection – but I’m extremely happy with the way I eat, how it makes me feel, and incorporating healthy habits into every day and real life experiences. Where I need some help… and really need to get my tushie focused is on Life Wisdom. Does anyone ever really MASTER life wisdom? I guess a few people do – those that make up their mind to be happy, or live whole hearted as Brene Brown describes. Yeah – Life Wisdom. If anyone happens to have the inside scoop on how to more cleverly walk down that path, feel free to share!

  • Stephanie says:

I have no idea if this prize is valid in Canada, I certainly hope so, and I’m going to try anyways!

Can I say that I’m still working on all of them? I’m significantly better in all areas than I was at this time last year (grad school has a tendency to destroy your health in every area if you let it) so I’m better at all, but still working on all.

  • Stephanie says:

I need to work on ALL of them! I sure don’t have any of them nailed yet.

  • barb says:

i’ve got healthy eating nailed…but I am seeking life wisdom in a big way.

  • Cathi says:

I think I have Healthy Eating down. I definitely need to work on Life Wisdom (I’m not even wise enough to know exactly what all that entails!) and the Fit Body (I will get get that pull up this year!).

  • Stephanie says:

Wow, this magazine exemplifies everything that I have been focusing on in my life lately! LOVE IT. And would love to win a subscription!

Like many of the others above, I feel like I have Healthy Eating down to a delicious science. But I can always use more great tips on workouts through Fit Body (pretty sure I’m trying that 10 minute kettlebell workout tonight, in fact) or never ending sources of Life Wisdom.

  • Valerie says:

All of these are a work in progress for me. I’d like to think my healthy eating is a habit now, but like any recovering addict, I’m always aware of the potential for a disastrous slip-up. Wellness and Fit Body are being achieved as I learn more and work to improve my temple. Since Wisdom is a gift from God, I know I gain more of that as I walk daily with Him.

  • Stephanie says:

Tricky question! I am going to give an answer in the form of refusing to answer part of the question: I am working on all of them, have nailed none! But, I am kind of glad; I think it’s important to always strive to be better. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Liz M says:

I think I’ve got the eating part down pretty well but I would love some insight on Life Wisdom and overall Wellness.

  • Jessica says:

I’d like to think that I have healthy eating (since I’ve found paleo) and fit body (strength training and pilates)down. I feel the best I’ve ever felt in my life inside and out. So, I would like to continue to work on these-always striving for my best, as I find that it changes from time to time. However, life wisdom comes to me everyday as I learn about life through the eyes of my daughter now 20 months. This magazine sounds like a dream!!! Just what I’d like to settle down to my coffee with. Sigh.

  • Dolores says:

I have not seen this magazine-guess I haven’t looked in the right places. All I seem to set is subscription offers for Elle, Allure, Lucky, and Vogue. Yea, right. They’ll get me on track.lol.

  • LisalisaB says:

    Basically
    Nailed – Nothing…
    Need work – Everything!
    : )

  • sue says:

Food down, wisdom almost down, over all wellness very good for my age but fairly new to intensity in workout-loving it but still struggle with what my mind says I can and cannot do. Mag looks great.

  • Emily says:

Wow… do I have to have something nailed? With my second Whole30 this past January I feel I made huge leaps in healthy eating–I now regularly eat veggies! It’s time for me to return to working on FitBody after a hiatus. I’m looking forward to more moving!

  • Mona H. says:

I am happy to say I now have a good relationship with real food. My little kiddos are fast becoming my teachers when it comes to life wisdom! Now I just need to tackle the fit body thing.

  • dani says:

Though really, I am not a master of any of these (there is always room for improvement)… I will say…

Have: Life Wisdom. Life is a work in progress. Journey, not the destination, yadda yadda. I know *my* life, I know what brings me joy, comfort, excitement, sadness, etc. I know how to let things roll over me (Hello, boss.) and how to stand up for myself when I feel it is necessary.

Workin’ on it: Fit Body. Due to the ever increasing Life Wisdom, I have learned that I need to start slow. Baby steps. It’s the only way I won’t be like, “Meh. I can’t do it 100% perfectly so I won’t do it at all!”

  • Sharon says:

Nailed down? Are you kidding? None! But isn’t that just part of life, always trying to improve.

  • Vance says:

I think I’ve got the life wisdom down and I’m learning more every day.

However, I need to work on the healthy eating and need to get the fit body back. Those truly are the 2 things I am definitely going to work on this year.

  • Alisha says:

I’m doing pretty well with healthy eating. Wellness could definitely use some work. I need to get more sleep and find time to decompress.

  • Matt says:

Judging by the fact that I am rarely sick and feel I lead a pretty balanced life, I think I have the wellness pretty nailed. Fit body and healthy eating are parts of that but are seemingly endless pursuits. The life wisdom is a life-long journey, the end of which I don’t know if anyone ever actually “arrives”. This year my focus is fit body!

  • Mindy t says:

I am a month in on eating paleo so that is a go for me. Now I just need to get the fit body part.

  • Jamie says:

I think I’m pretty alright with wellness… Well, sort of! 🙂

  • Cecilia Foltz says:

Healthy eating is in the bag for me. I know what to do and I do it. Not to say I don’t “treat” myself occasionally (occasionally being the key word). I eat Paleo and honestly I don’t feel restricted and I LOVE everything I eat!! Thats key to sticking with it. Must be a lifestyle change, not just a quick fix.
Fit Body is well on the way. CrossFit has been the best thing that’s happened to me and I have the muscles to prove it!
Ahem, Life Wisdom?!?! Will I or anyone ever fully have this?? Maybe being comfortable without fully attaining it is key. But this is an area that I could use some work on. Trying to manage work, CrossFit, my relationship into a healthy balance is what I need some wisdom in. Seems as when I put effort towards one, another lags behind. But I’m working on it!

  • Roland says:

    – Fit Body – check
    – Healthy Eating – double check
    – Life Wisdom – I need to practice what I preach a little more…
    – Wellness – My wife’s got this down… Why do I resist?

  • Erica says:

Wow! I wish I could say I have any of these “nailed” but they are all things that I am working on every day. I think if I had to pick one I am doing well with the healthy eating (paleo) and I want to work on wellness.

    What a wonderful giveaway!

  • Stephanie says:

Trying my best to begin a healthy lifestyle…looking for all the tips and inspiration i can get go keep me on track

  • Chris Brooks says:

    Hello!

I have healthy eating pretty much nailed…I am now following the Paleo way of life…I am down 18 pounds in just 2 weeks and feel allot healthier with all the Junk food, fast food, sodas removed from my diet/body and life!!!

Fit body is what I will be working on this year! Starting to incorporate small fitness changes into each day, then I plan on going to crossfit classes…nervous about that though!

Would be cool to win this great prize! Good luck to everyone!!!

  • Nichole says:

I say fit body is something I have down. I’ve overcome those mornings where I debate with myself if I really want to get up for that 4 mile run in the 30 degree weather. Now it’s when I can fit more into my schedules. I am learning to make better food choices eating healthier and cleaner, attempting to move into a Paleo lifestyle. I have learned quite a bit but have a lot more to improve on.

  • Healthy Eating – Down! Life Wisdom – More please!

  • Brandi says:

It is a journey that I will never “nail” down. However, fit body and healthy eating is going good right now. This year, I would like to become more wise and content.

  • Michelle says:

After dropping over 80 lbs in the last year, at age 44 may I add, I think I finally have the eating healthy “nailed”. I have worked really hard at educating myself and will continue to do so the rest of my life.

Life Wisdom I believe, is a continuing journey. I wake up everyday thirsting for new adventures and the knowledge I pick up along the way. I hope everyone enjoys the journey.

  • Laura Schmieg says:

I think I do pretty well with the healthy eating/ fit body. However, I can get a bit (just a tiny bit) obsessive. I think I could really work on wellness on the whole. Life balance, stress relief, etc.

  • Jennifer says:

Got the fit body down– need to work on life wisdom!

  • Melissa M says:

I actually think life wisdom is one area in which I’m doing pretty well. Healthy eating and fit body could use some more work though!

  • Linda says:

I think I will always be working on my best self. When is a work of beauty (inside and out) ever “DONE”? This is a journey, which I’ve learned to appreciate by living within each moment and being kind, gentle and loving with myself. Strict rules, guilt and beating myself up for not being “good” are a thing of the past, but the learning and growing will continue, I hope, until the day I leave this lovely Earth.

  • Amber says:

Doing pretty well with the fit body, need to get better with the healthy eating so I can keep getting fitter!

  • Kim says:

Wow, I haven’t nailed any of them to be honest. I’m working on wellness now, which includes healthy eating and fitness for me. I’ve been doing pretty well over the past 4 weeks.

  • Laura says:

Amazingly enough, I think I’m getting the wellness thing down! I’m off of all medications… my sleep apnea is gone… my extra heart beat is disappearing… my thyroid is returning to normal…

Sadly, I still need a lot of work especially in the area of Fit Body and Healthy Eating… I have many reasons to get fit and healthy but haven’t found the motivation that gets me moving in the right direction on a consistant basis…

  • Patty says:

I’m brand new to the Paleo Lifestyle….as a RN I’m understanding how much the standard medical & nutritional teachings are contributing to perpetuating illness in our country. I’d like to be a better role model for my patients.

I’m learning how to begin cooking Paleo, & switching to more high-intensity, functional fitness workouts.

Can’t wait to see the results! 🙂

  • J.Marshall says:

I am totally working on Fit Body! It is not easy for me to get an exercise plan that is motivational/changing/challenging enough for me to stick with…(and I am an exercise “hider”. I don’t want anybody to see me exercise!!)

Wellness needs some work. I have a lot of stress in my life and hardly any time to myself right now.

Life Wisdom is something that seems ever changing to me. Sometimes it’s enough, sometimes not enough. Most of the time I find what I actually know changes with situations/people. Some days it feels as if I don’t now anything! 🙂

I have Healthy Eating down pat…minus the gingersnaps once in awhile! 🙂 I am a firm believer that everyone should indulge once in awhile.

  • Kelsey says:

Healthy eating and wellness are second nature now (that’s what a little bit of education does)… but the thing I really want to improve on this year is a fit body. I workout regularly, mixing in crossfit, running, yoga etc.. but I need to get out of my own way and believe that I’m as strong as I am. Sometimes when I’m lifting something heavier than I “should” be able to lift, I get in my own head and my progress isn’t as much as I know it could be!

    • Linda says:

Wow…this is so my issue as well! I have been a non-athlete all my life and incredibly weak! I totally hinder my progress by not believing I can do it. I am working on it, but it is such a hard thing to break free of!

  • Susan says:

I want a fit body and to live well. I have several physical ailments- osteo & rheumatoid arthritis as well as fibro and other difficulties. I have lived in a bubble listening to the doctors tell me what I can’t do. Now, looking forward to turning 50, I am going to listen to my body and do- my body and I want to move, stretch, and bend. I am starting to bicycle because it is easier than walking, and am starting to use yoga to stretch my muscles out from their cramped existence of the past.
You are correct when saying the magazines only have the media outlook of beautiful in their models-even in the so called athletic magazines. I would love to be gifted with a subscription to this magazine. Blessings!!!

  • Colleen says:

Fit Body was nearly in the bag. My deadlift PR was 225 and I had my eyes on the gym female PR of 270. I had just ordered Well Fed and had started a Whole 30 session. Then, I got the news that I had breast cancer. I’m in week two of recovering from a bi-lateral mastectomy. It will be months before I can return to my CrossFit lifestyle. But my CrossFit family is cheering me on!

Thank God for Life Wisdom! Being able to remain positive and direct that positive energy on the desired outcome has made this an experience of growth and gratefulness.

And even though it’s not on the list, having an amazing husband/partner/best friend really helps, too!

  • Sarah says:

I feel like I have fit body down but I want to work on wellness rather than fit this year. I think I sacrifice my overall wellness for a better looking body.

  • Beth says:

Fit body and health, yes. Wisdom…working on till I die! I have the privilege of working with patients in 2 nursing homes, and the wisdom years of life has brought them is incredible. Well-fed in large thanks to you.

  • Shanna K says:

I’d say the ones I feel comfortable with where I’m at and where I’m going on are the fit body and the healthy eating. The lifestyle patterns are in place and just need to be continued. For wellness, I feel this is tied to all three and will come together as the others do.As for life wisdom, I feel I’m always learning and right now I’m a little low on that learning curve but on the upward swing. That’s the one I’m really working on right now, mostly in the career/work arenas of life and how to have a good sustainable balance between work and life and what work/career/job is really going to make that happen for me. Thanks!

  • Honestly? I could probably use a little help in all of those categories. I’m not doing so hot right now.

  • Stacy W says:

I think that when you practice healthy eating habits you get rewarded with a fit body and wellness. I am an eater from way back so I know that it can be hard to embrace the whole Paleo “thing” when you want your Jalapeno Cheetoh’s and Reece’s. One thing I try to explain to the nay sayers is that once you alter your eating habits you realize just how bad you really felt. When I can get someone to at least try eating Paleo I celebrate a small victory. We can make this a revolution one person at a time!

  • Amy in Austin says:

I think Life Wisdom is what I need to work on most. Fitness is good, I eat pretty clean and am constantly getting better, but I need to work on letting go and loving myself more. (Looking forward to the Hateloss phone conversation.)

  • Connie S says:

We always thought we ate good until we started eating Paleo two months ago and have felt so great that we’re sold for life. The fitness issue…well, I’ve always been ‘active’ but not as fit as could be. That will definitely now be my goal for this year.
