Friday Flashback: 35+36 Burpees

I’ve been blogging here since 2008, and – if I do say so myself – there’s some good stuff in my archive that you might have missed. On Fridays, I’m going to take you on a Friday Flashback and point you to some good stuff from the checkered past of The Clothes Make The Girl.

35+36 Burpees

Originally posted on September 25, 2008, this post was written when I was still in the throes of my new love affair with CrossFit. I participated in every challenge that came along: pushups, Spartan, I AM CROSSFIT, and, – of course – the 100 Burpee Challenges that were all the rage around that time. Do you remember? Do 1 burpee on day 1, 2 burpees on day 2, etc. … and should you miss a days’ worth, you had to do them the next day, along with the new ones. It was horrible on, say, day 73 to skip ’cause on day 74, you were doing 73+74. Or, as you see in my Flashback post, 35+36.

While I doubt that I’d commit to something like that now – I have wholeheartedly embraced the ‘less is more’ philosophy for now – I got a lot out of that commitment. I did burpees when I didn’t want to, and I learned the boundaries of the things of which I’m capable. And sometimes it was fun.

But that’s not why I chose this post for today. I picked this one because it includes a picture of my skinny-ass cat Sesame. She was 18 years old in the photo and looks like a fuzz-covered skeleton. She liked to walk around my head and hands while I did burpees. I loved and still love her fiercely.

Here’s a snippet:

Saying “Yay, burpee” on the clap really does make it easier… Also, a skinny-ass calico cat named Sesame is NOT a helpful burpee partner.

Great burpee tips, and aw … poor little Sesame — I didn’t know Smudge had a predecessor, and how nice of you to share your remembrance with us. My 18-year old cat was likewise so thin, but still such a love right up until the end. Gotta love these faithful little friends, forever!
