Friday Flashback: I’m Probably Going to Say No

I’ve been blogging here since 2008, and – if I do say so myself – there’s some good stuff in my archive that you might have missed. On Fridays, I’m going to take you on a Friday Flashback and point you to some good stuff from the checkered past of The Clothes Make The Girl.

Friday Flashback: I’m Probably Going to Say No
Originally posted on April 18, 2009, this entry was an announcement to my near and dear – and myself – that was about to enter a “get serious” mode about nutrition, workouts, and rest. I needed to get back to my happy place.

I thrive most naturally and effortlessly when I have periods of “happy” (lots of rest, dino-chow, and training) and “fun” (late night concerts, non-paleo foods, and other assorted adventures). The happy times keep me healthy – the fun times ensure I cut loose and enjoy myself once in a while.

But there really can be too much of a good (fun) thing. Which is where I was when I wrote this post.

Here’s a snippet:

Whenever I loosen the screws on my diet and training, the first few days feel fun and indulgent… and then my attitude and general well-being start a downhill slide.

I am currently at the bottom of the hill, and I’m ready to get my ass back up to the top.

Time for “fun” has passed. Time for “happy” is about to begin.

Great post! Just what I needed!

I'm with you on the too much of a fun thing. Last summer after spending about two months heavily into CrossFit and Paleo, I went on a trip to Vegas with some girlfriends. I tried to have a reasonable amount of self control and still enjoy the drinks (one-two per night) and food (sharing deserts instead of ordering for myself), but by the third night of no sleeping, I was ready to turn in at 3am, and one of the girls I was with threw a fit in the casino and then gave me the silent treatment the entire week after the trip. When I asked her what her problem was, it turned out my two drink max, going in from the pool before I burned and wanting to go to bed at 3am instead of 5am ruined HER trip. Almost a year later, she won't hang out with me and only speaks to me if we happen to find ourselves in a social situation together.

So…it doesn't have a whole lot to do with your post, but there's certainly something to be said for sleep and eating well in relation to getting along with other people!

A great motivational post. I am not only at the bottom of the hill, I am in the trench. Thank you for spurring me onto better health!!

Meghann –> Glad to be of help!

Jennifer –> I'm really sorry to hear that. Not a fun story at all! But good for you for doing what you need to take care of yourself.

Janie –> Oh, honey! I found myself at the bottom of the Mariana Trench yesterday. Here's to both of us climbing out!
