The Essential Thyroid Cookbook
I need to tell you about this new cookbook—especially if you have Hashimoto’s or other thyroid disease. (Even if you don’t have thyroid disease, it’s important to care for your darling little thyroid. It’s the body’s “master gland” and plays a crucial role in energy management, metabolism, growth, and reproduction.)
It’s called The Essential Thyroid Cookbook: Over 100 Nourishing Recipes for Thriving with Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s, and it was written by my (super smart, super nice) friends Lisa Markley (MS, RDN) and Jill Grunewald (HNC).
I met Jill a few years ago on a trip to Minneapolis with my husband Dave to do the press check for our cookbook Well Fed 2. Jill and I literally ran into each other in Whole Foods and realized we had mutual friends. That was the start of our friendship, and I’ve never encountered anyone else as passionate as Jill is about helping people manage their thyroid health through diet. She’s like the emotion kindness made into a person.
Cookbook + Handbook
I’m honored to have contributed a few recipes to this collection—but the book goes beyond recipes. It’s like a handbook to educate you for a lifetime of peak thyroid function—no matter where you currently are on your wellness journey. In the Essential Thyroid Nutrition section of the book, Jill delivers real education so you’ll understand the root causes of Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism, the key nutrients known to boost thyroid and immune function, the connection between digestive health and thyroid imbalances, and how to determine if certain foods may be triggering inflammation.
This is not a paleo or Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) book. Instead, Lisa and Jill used a rigorous academic approach to identify the foods that are the most supportive to your thyroid and immune system. Then, from this research, they created a “nutritional springboard” to serve as a foundation for the recipes. The recipes are therapeutically designed to incorporate key foods and nutrients for thyroid and immune health, without sacrificing taste.
But—and this great!—they also provide sensible adaptations, whenever possible, so that the recipes will fit within the paleo or AIP guidelines, if that’s your thing.
The Essential Thyroid Cookbook is available for pre-order now and will be officially released on September 19. Be sure to head to the official site to learn all about the awesome pre-order bonuses, including an exclusive interview with Aviva Romm, MD, author of The Adrenal Thyroid Revolution, Shopping Tips and Grocery List, bonus recipes, and more.
