PaleoFX: A (Short) Story In Photos

My PaleoFX experience started with a group book signing and ended with falling in love with a new paleo treat. Here’s some of the photographic evidence of my exploits.

Once upon a time…

Thursday, April 10 — 7:00 p.m. | Book signing at Barnes & Noble with Michelle of Nom Nom Paleo, Diana of Sustainable Dish, and Arsy of Rubies & Radishes. We took questions from the audience and generally acted like goofballs. It was pretty awesome.

Friday, April 11 — 10:30 a.m. | Cooking Demo at PaleoFX. I made Crispy Chicken Livers and generally acted like a goofball. It was also pretty awesome. (Thanks, Michelle, for the photo!)

Friday, April 11 — 11:30 a.m.  | Epic walk around the lake with Steve of The Paleo Drummer. His blog is a must-read for common-sense, accessible advice on paleo “beyond the food,” served up with plenty of punk rock attitude. You should read it! This is our selfie in which he indulged me by making a “mean face” with me.

Saturday, April 12 — 12:30 p.m. | Back Squats & Deadlifts workshop with the incomparable Eva T. This was my favorite two hours of the entire conference, and I wish it would have been twice as long. Eva gave us practical tips to make our back squats and deadlifts — two fundamental lifts if you want to be an awesome human, as I do — safe, effective, and bad ass. It was silly fun and serious work, all at the same time, and BONUS! I got to hang out with some really incredibly cool women. Observe…

Stacy Toth (of Paleo Parents fame) is a seriously successful and committed weight lifting babe. She and I made a pact on Friday afternoon that we’d go to the workshop together — and Stacy even wore her Well Fed socks which, as we all know, lead to PRs.

I also got to spend time with my blonde-doppleganger-until-I-cut-my-hair Summer Innanen, who is probably better known for being a totally kickass motivator and nutrition coach. This is her business — and this is her:

But those are just two examples. Look at this collection of badassery:

Here I am, getting schooled on the deadlift. Key takeaways: I need to remember to keep my head in alignment with my spine and to move my body around the bar, instead of pulling the bar to me. It seems easy, but I have to unlearn some bad habits.

And, finally, me with Eva T., who was patient, helpful, generous, and — as evidenced in this photo — so completely capable of kicking your ass, she doesn’t need to do it.

Sunday, April 13 — 1:00 p.m. | My introduction to Cinnamon Red Maca Almond Butter. I have an entire post about this lusciousness to share later this week. Suffice it to say that Sunbutter now has some competition for my affection. I blame the nice people at Barefoot Provisions for tempting me with their food samples.

What fun! You look like you’re having an absolute blast. I can’t tell you how happy I am that you’re so successful at living your dream life. And I so much appreciate your honest words and attitude when things aren’t going perfectly. You inspire me almost every day. Thank you.

  • Mean faces FTW! I liked everything about PFX this year, but the epic lake walk is still in first place. Keep being awesome, my friend.

Ahhhh so great to meet you- I’m glad I could tempt you with that maca almond butter (I mean, I would have felt guilty if we didn’t make you try it!) I have a jar for myself on the way as I type!!! And I loved your Vermont photos- what a cool place! Excited for you and your new adventures 🙂

Looks like FUN!! I was going to go… hubby had to work. next year! I’ll be there. hope it is not on the Zooma race day again in Bastrop.

  • Great photos from a great event! I loved it so much last year that we went back this year with 8 people. A very positive event, with great teachers (like Eva T!) and a tremendous amount of information to use, study, learn, etc. And yes, the food area… See you there next year!
