Free Thyroid Seminar With Mary Shomon

insideandout

I’ve read a lot of books about janky thyroids, and the one I found the most helpful was Thyroid Diet Revolution by Mary Shomon. I like to refer to it as “the really great book with the really unfortunate title.” I think Shomon did herself a disservice by giving it such a diet-y title because – as you can read in my previous review – it’s not a quick-fix “diet” book. It’s packed with really helpful information that arms the reader with plenty of details to take back to their own doctors. I found it really comforting, and it restored my optimism for different paths I could travel in trying to get my body back.

Now the author has teamed up with Gena Lee Nolin – yes! that Gena Lee Nolin, from Baywatch – on a new book called Beautiful Inside and Out: Conquering Thyroid Disease with a Healthy, Happy, “Thyroid Sexy” Life. The book is only available for pre-order right now, so I haven’t read it yet, but here’s the description:

Gena Lee Nolin, a star of the hit TV series Baywatch, was the picture of perfect health. Then suddenly she was plagued by a baffling array of symptoms: exhaustion, brain fog, bloating, depression, hair loss, and debilitating changes in energy, weight, and mood, culminating in lifethreatening symptoms during her pregnancy. Like millions of American women, Nolin was struggling with undiagnosed thyroid disease. Thyroid problems leave women feeling anything but beautiful, and often they find themselves stigmatized by friends, family, the media—even doctors. But it doesn’t have to be that way!

Collaborating with New York Times bestselling author and internationally recognized thyroid patient advocate Mary Shomon, Nolin uses her own story to deliver practical information vital for anyone struggling with thyroid issues. Readers will learn how to get diagnosed accurately and treated effectively, how to lose weight, balance hormones, solve beauty challenges, and regain their self-confidence. Full of practical checklists, questionnaires, and advice from America’s leading experts in thyroid and hormonal health, here is a heartfelt, helpful guide for women who are ready to feel strong, sexy, and beautiful again.

Mary Shomon is offering a free, online Q&A on Monday, September 23 to people who pre-order the book. It’s an opportunity to spend an hour with Shomon and ask questions about thyroid-related issues. In the free call, Shomon will be sharing things that have been working for her, taking listener questions, and talking through recent thyroid news.

To sign up, you need to pre-order Beautiful Inside and Out, then complete this form to register for the seminar.

    Hey Mel,

(coming out of hiding) Can you please update us on your own health journey? I remember reading not too long ago that you went to a new doctor.

    • Mel says:

I will absolutely update you… as soon as I have news. Right now, I have only a mini-update: my thyroid hormones were wonky again, so the doc prescribed an increase in my dose of Armour. But I’m still waiting on my follow-up appointments for the complete blood work, urine and stool tests, etc. As soon as I have a report, I’ll share it with everyone.

Right now, I’m following the strict elimination diet, taking my supplements, and waiting. ALWAYS with the waiting.

        Mel,

Thanks for the update. Crossing my fingers for you and the upcoming appointment.

PS. Well Fed 2 is arriving in my home tomorrow!

Also, I’ll be in Prague, Vienna, Budapest in just about a week. I remember you recently did some traveling, can you recommend any places to eat or must-see attractions, if you have some spare time. Thank you!

  • Mary Shomon says:

Thanks for sharing this, Mel!!! Will you be joining us for the call? Would love to have you with us!

I’m actually gearing up for my annual thyroid cancer scan (was diagnosed last year, had a thyroidectomy and ablation, and doing Synthroid now to keep levels down). One thing I’ve had alot of problems finding information on is what to do when you’ve had a thyroidectomy, but still have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis…everything I’ve read is handling HT while you’ve still got a thyroid, not managing health once it’s gone, but the auto immune disease still exists…wonder if this will be covered in the book.

Side note, I’ve been trying out some of the recipes while going for a low glycemic diet, and once I have to go on the low iodine pre-scan diet, going to try this thing whole heartedly. Looking forward to using more of your recipes!

I’ve had trouble finding info on the best care if thyroid is removed or, as in my case, MOSTLY removed. There seems to be lots of info out there for getting diagnosed, but no so much about what happens after they take the damn thing out 🙂

      Best wishes to you!
