Well Fed 2: Available For Pre-Order

wellfed2cover

We got a surprising surprise on Friday: Well Fed 2 is available for pre-order on Amazon!

In fact, there was a brief time over the weekend when the Top 20 cookbooks on Amazon included Well Fed at #18 and Well Fed 2 at #19! It looked like this, and it was nutso for us (in the very best way possible).

amazontop20

Yeah, that’s right! For a tiny moment in time, we were ranked higher than Paul Prudhomme!

What’s most shocking about this news is that Well Fed 2: More Paleo Recipes For People Who Love To Eat isn’t quite finished yet. Ssshhhhh…. let’s keep that our little secret. All of the recipes and food photos are finished, but there’s still editing and supplemental photography to be completed before the book hits stores on October 22.

But just in case you’re super excited — and I really hope you are — and  you’d like to pre-order a copy now, here are some details about the new cookbook, so you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into.

The Recipes
There are almost 140 recipes, including ideas for non-standard paleo breakfasts; simple, “no recipe required” ideas for fast, delicious meals; and 15 totally kickass, international meatball recipes — plus plenty of “You Know How You Could Do That” suggestions.

Because I’m a stick in the mud (who only wants the best for you and for me), there are no paleo desserts, no added sweeteners, no overly-fatty cuts of meat or deep-fried things (no matter how much we all might love them). All but one of the recipes are Whole30 approved (I’m looking at you, Banana Pecan Ice Cream), and they all passed my very stringent guidelines for deliciousness that doesn’t compromise on good health. This list is just a sample of the yumminess we’ve got in store for you…

Some of the recipes are based on dishes I’ve already published here on my blog, but all of them have been re-tested and updated for Maximum Flavor Power™.

More Than Recipes
Just as the original Well Fed included information that went beyond the recipes, the front sections of Well Fed 2 offer helpful advice to make it easier to feed yourself and your family — without going nuts buying special ingredients or spending all your free time in the kitchen. I’ve also included more info about how my recipes fit into the Whole30, along with helpful advice for upgrading your eating habits for optimal health and happiness.

Autoimmune Protocol
While this cookbook is not 100% compliant with the autoimmune protocol of paleo, I have included detailed information for how to modify the recipes to eliminate problematic ingredients without compromising the taste of the recipe. About 52 of the recipes can easily be modified to comply with the limitations of the AIP.

Whole30 Approved
Melissa and Dallas reviewed every recipe and gave a big thumbs up to all of them for inclusion during a Whole30 except one: the Banana Pecan Ice Cream. That means for Whole30-ers — or people like me who eat Whole30 style at home most of the time — there are more than 140 recipes to (happily) get you through the month.

Formats
When we release the print version, a PDF version will be available, too — and Kindle is coming… probably in December or January. For a variety of reasons, we need to release the print version first, so you digital peeps will have to be a little patient (or make do with the PDF version for a while). And just like with the original Well Fed, you can get the PDF version for $1 when you buy the print book (and we’ll donate that $1 to a deserving charity). We’ll also donate $1 of every PDF sale to the charity, too.

Enough Talk. Photos!
Every recipe is accompanied by a full-page, full-color photo — and there are lots of other photos throughout, along with sidebars, illustrations, and other tasty tidbits to fill the pages and your imagination with mind-blowingly awesome ideas.

  • Babs says:

I’ll buy the book (love Well Fed v. I), but only if you tell me where I can get one of those lovely ‘I love grass’ cow butter dishes! Oh, ok, I’ll buy the book regardless but I sure would like one of those butter dishes.

    • Mel says:

HA! I customized that butter dish. I have no idea where we got the “butter cow” as we call it around our house. A yard sale, maybe? Then I tattooed him with stickers and a heart I meticulously colored and cut out myself. Sweet, right?!

  • pamela says:

I had to order first, then come back for a little peak at what I’d just ordered. I know, I’m a little backward, but I’m excited about getting your new book, so that counts for something.

  • Robin S. says:

Super excited for this! Can’t wait to get my hands on it!

  • Kellyann says:

WAY BIG congrads! Much success to my fav Paleo chef… I am ordering now. So happy for you!

  • Stacy says:

OMG! OMG! OMG! I love WF and I’m sure WF2 will be a huge hit! I have clients always asking what is the best cookbook for Paleo or Whole 9/30 and I ALWAYS send them your way! Woo Hoo! Gonna pre-order! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

  • Heidi Staddon says:

Lizard sauce, eh? How could anyone not get this book now?

Thank you very much for you “No” list. That dedication to health (and niche marketing) makes you stand out in the fast-crowding paleo recipe book landscape.

  • Scot Herrick says:

    Ordered. Now waiting!

  • Honey says:

Great, will definitely pre-order this one (and keep my fingers crossed that they ship fast to Sweden)!
I have a question about the olive oil mayo, I can’t seem to get it right. Each time I make it it just gets really bitter and not mayo-tasting at all. It still looks and feels like mayo though, although a bit on the yellow side. I’ve tried a variety of oils: olive, avocado and macadamia, but it still doesn’t taste right. What should I do?

    • Mel says:

I’m flummoxed — I have no idea. Maybe it’s the mustard you’re using? Can you try a different brand of dried mustard or omit it and see if that works better?

If it’s not the mustard, try using cider vinegar instead of lemon juice.

BUT you can only change one thing at a time to figure out what it is, so you’ll have to experiment two more times to try those suggestions.

    • J9 says:

Have you tried a light tasting olive oil? I always found with extra virgin or macadamia nut the bitter taste.

      • noblepower says:

I second J9’s comment – use olive oil that is marked as “extra-light tasting”. If you use your nice EV, it will taste bitter. Been there, done that.

      • Honey says:

Finally found light tasting olive oil, made another batch and OH…MY…GOD. I could eat just this mayonnaise with a spoon, I don’t need anything else from now on 🙂

  • Starting the Paleo lifestyle Today!! I have been doing my research for about a week and have heard about it from many friends. I’m excited 🙂

  • Stephanie says:

Cincinnati chili?!?!?! You just changed my life. For realz. My husband and I used to go to Skyline every Sunday pre-paleo. And even though we know the chili was slowly killing us, we miss it so much. Can’t wait for WF2!!

  • Melissa says:

Was on vacay in Mexico when I saw the ability to per order on NomNom Forky Friday edition. Done and ordered from there!!!!!

Can’t wait,,,, Couldn’t wait to preorder!!

Lots of good health and sending all interested your way.

    Warml regards!

  • Teresa says:

Heck yeah…pre-order…DONE! Will this be available in a digital edition as well? Because you know I have to have both. 🙂

  • Monique says:

Paleo hoisin sauce! *dies of happiness*

  • Ehsa says:

Wow! October will be my favorite month this year! Can’t wait! WF2 looks like a total winner!

  • Jill says:

I pre-ordered mine!!! Super excited!! I live out of Wel Feed #1

  • Alicia says:

YEAH! I preordered over the weekend. Stoked to see what the sequel has in store for us!

  • Alicia says:

p.s. had I not already preordered you would’ve had me at plantain nachos! Seriously?!

  • Emily says:

Oh I am ON IT. We’re going on vacation tomorrow and I’m starting my own kombucha and getting great grades in my photography class…but THIS is what excites me. Yay for WF2!!!

  • Paleo Granny says:

I have been watching for the pre-order notice for WellFed2 and ordered it right away – can’t wait. So many new recipes to try, and I am also moving to the autoimmune protocol because, after 11 months on Paleo and the last two weeks on the Whole30, I’m stuck at fat. Looking forward to your help on the autoimmune diet.

  • Mel says:

Thanks so much for being excited. WOOT!!!!

  • michele b. says:

Just pre-ordered mine! I LOVE the original Well Fed, and this site (and, for that matter, YOU)…anxiously awaiting the arrival of the sequel!

  • Margaret Altmeier says:

I love Well Fed. Every recipe I tried has been wonderful. I will definitely buy Well Fed 2 when it comes out. Mel, do you have an alternative for “jicama”. Can’t get that where I live (Germany). I love the European flair that your recipes have that I have not found in other American Paleo books that I have read. Well Fed was also very personable and fun to read. I fell like I know you already! 🙂

    • Mel says:

I’m so glad you’re enjoying Well Fed!

There’s really no substitute for raw jicama. If you want to make the “potato” salad and homefries in Well Fed, you can substitute turnips. Just cut into cubes and boil in salted water until tender, then follow the rest of the recipe instructions.

      Hope this helps!

    • michele b. says:

I’ve made the home fries with sweet potato…what a treat!

    • Timothy says:

Have you tried any Mexican markets? Often times you can find types of produce at these tiendas that are not available at your typical Safeway type of grocery store.

  • Alison says:

I just ordered it! Looking forward to getting it!

  • Barbara says:

Just saw WFII on Amazon and rushed here to hear your news. Awesome!
Thank you thank you thank you, Mel, for including AIP-ified versions of a bunch of your recipes. I feel pretty stodgy with my AIP going on 3 months now, and you’ll be giving me a real energy shot! Can’t wait to get my hands on it.

  • Misty says:

PLEEEEEASE make is one spiral bound?!! My Well Fed 1 totally came apart- though, to be fair, it is VERY well-thumbed. Preordering now!! S excited!!

    • Mel says:

We’re looking into doing a limited run of spiral bound copies of Well Fed 2. When we did our survey, the vast majority of people wanted the lay-flat binding, but I know some people really like spiral, so we’re trying to find a way to make it available. Will keep you posted.

    • Timothy says:

I would also be interested in a spiral version. Nothing like trying to keep a book open while in the middle of cooking.

    • De23 says:

I would like a spiral-bound option, too. I ended up binding WF1 myself, but it’s so much easier if it just comes that way…

  • Alison says:

You can get it spiral bound for about 6 bucks at an office supply. That’s what I did with the first Well Fed. On another note…Melissa I pre-ordered your book but I am interested in the bracelet too, can I get a package deal?

    • Mel says:

      Thanks for pre-ordering!

We might do a package deal in the future with other merch, but we haven’t gotten there yet. First, we need to get the book finished and published 😉

  • Wendy says:

Oh Fantastic! I sure hope they will ship it to Canada. I’ve moved here for 2 years and don’t want to miss out.

  • noblepower says:

Ok, preordered #2. When can we start pestering you for WF3? 😉

  • heather says:

Awesome! I just sent this out to all of my clients. They have loved Well Fed and I demand… I mean gently encourage…. all of my clients to buy it when they start any bootcamp or Optimal Health Coaching program with me. Always highly reviewed. Thanks for making healthy eating with real food easy for people to create in their own kitchens!

Good luck with the next release! We love it!

  • Kandice says:

I preordered this through Amazon.ca but they are saying 1-3 weeks to be available! I’m dying to know, how do you get the PDF copy for a dollar? I am going to start my first Whole30 this weekend and think I will need all the tasty options I can get!

    • Mel says:

I replied to you in email, but just in case…

The back of the printed book (p. 236) includes a code to download the PDF for $1. Thanks for pre-ordering!

  • Nathan says:

Is this not avail as an eBook or just because I am in Australia id like the ebook…?

  • Nathan says:

    Gotit 🙂

  • Carol Nathan says:

Hi there! Is Kindle version still on target for December? I can’t wait to get my hands on the soft version. (I don’t have room for the physical book)

  • Carol Nathan says:

Never mind! I found the PDF version and just bought it! Yay me! Thanks Mel

  • Geri says:

    Hi Melissa,
I cooked “Perfect Steak” for breakfast this morning…. you are NOT kidding!! FINALLY a recipe for grass fed/finished steak that not only works but ROCKS! Even hubby LOVED it and he can be wildly picky.

    Keep on being awesome 🙂

    • YAY! Steak for breakfast is awesome. I was home by myself the other day and made a steak — felt so indulgent! Glad you like the technique in my book. Happy eating to you!
