Naturally Fit Magazine

So here’s a sentence I never thought I’d type: I’m on the cover of a magazine.

I’d love for you to read my interview, written by the talented — and stylish — Jordan Snyder… Just hit this link and flip to page 44. But before you do, here are snaps from behind the scenes of our all-day cooking, talking, photography extravaganza.

This is Jordan, chopping nuts for Velvety Butternut Squash.
And this is the doggie that made sure we didn’t drop anything on the floor.
Somehow, Jordan managed a camera, a casserole, and perfect eye liner.
Meanwhile, I tried to muscle open a jar.
Who says teas need to have soothing, groovy names?! Take THIS, Sleepytime Chamomile!
And finally, there was cake. (But I didn’t eat any because I was doing the Whole30+AIP.)

Head on over to Naturally Fit to read my interview, and a bunch of other great articles on sports, fitness, motivation, and bonus! healthy Thanksgiving recipes.

I loved the article! I just started my second round of whole 30 and I’m falling in love with food again. I love playing around with the flavors and feeling that what I eat is actually being utilized by my body. I love your blog and thank you for promoting real, delicious food in a practical way.

  • Gerald Hines says:

    Jordan, you are special. 🙂

  • Lydia says:

Maybe you never expected to say that sentence, but I’m surprised it took this long. Congratulations, hon! I’m so happy for you!

  • Kel says:

    You GO girl!!

  • Kel says:

After reading the article, I think we may be twins separated at birth. Except I am older than you. 🙂

Loved it, and it got me even more excited for Well Fed 2!!

    • Mel says:

HA! Well Fed 2 is a pain in my butt right now, but I’m sure I’ll love it soon. I tested a bunch of recipes this week, and had two big duds, and on that needs lots more work. Sigh.

  • Hannah says:

How do you get your hair so damn shiny???

  • Pam says:

Great article! I’ve been following you blog for a while now and love, love, love all of your recipes. keep up the good work.

Great article! Congratulations!! The article reminded me how much I love your cookbook – it is my favorite (I have 49 cookbooks) Yours has the best layout, pictures, and of course; food!! I wanted to thank you so much for this which you have created. You have helped me in my life.

    • Mel says:

Thanks so much — thrilled that Well Fed is part of your collection. Happy cooking! And thanks for taking the time to comment… makes my day.

  • Sara says:

This makes me so happy for you! So glad you’ve shared your story–highs and lows–so people can see that sometimes it’s tough to be “good”, but it pays off. You’ve certainly been instrumental in helping me find the Paleo Path. 🙂

I sort of fell off the paleo wagon over the summer (like… face-planted into SAD quicksand), but I’ve got a pot of Chocolate Chili on the stove tonight and plans to be Well Fed going into the Christmas season. I’m looking forward to Well Fed 2!

    • Mel says:

Thanks for celebrating this with me. It was pretty fun to hang out with Jordan and blah blah blah about myself. So indulgent!

I think we are all trying to be Well Fed from now to 2013 🙂 I’m trying really hard to stick to my Whole30 plan through this month, then bring on the holidays! Enjoy your Chocolate Chili! I’m making some tomorrow, too.

  • Nadine says:

Kudos to Jordan for a great article, and it was so nice to learn more about you and your family. I have been struggling recently with staying Paleo, and this article was just what I needed to get motivated and back to basics. I loved the pics, and I am so glad that another reader asked about your beautiful shiny hair!

  • Nadine says:

I’m a tea connoiseur, so I have to ask..what is in the WTFU blend? And where can I get some? LOL I am sooo not a morning person!

    • Mel says:

Ha! That’s at Jordan’s house, so I don’t know what the blend is… sorry!

    • Hi Nadine!
I used to work at an organic tea shop, and that was the blend that we all used to get jacked up on enough caffeine to be pleasant to our 7 a.m. customers. It’s a 50/50 mixture of roasted yerba mate and chai tea. It tastes like a mild chai, but the stimulants in the yerba mate are strong enough to get you to “wake the fuck up.”
The blend isn’t anything you can find in stores, the tea house I worked at (in Florida) eventually put it on it’s shelves under the much more user friendly name “Carpe Diem”.

  • Holly says:

I love the backstory in the article as well. Didn’t know you were a rollergirl! Great article and how exciting!

  • Megan says:

I just have to say I think you are absolutely fabulous! I love your blog and Well Fed is the most used (and loved) cookbook in our house. You can tell because most of the pages are stuck together. 🙂 You are the perfect balance of beauty, sass & brains (& braun). Keep it up girl!

  • Natalie says:

Mel, you are amazing, beautiful and witty! I have had so many “AH-HA” moments while cooking from your book.
I can’t tell you how excited I was when I made your Pad Thai and Mayo!
My husband thought I was crazy, but then he tasted it. Amazeballs!
I recommend your book to anyone that asks me about the Paleo life.
Best of everything to you, and continued success.
    Nat :)~

  • Matt says:

    You ROCK! Great article.

  • Mer says:

Mel, you are SO beautiful! It was such a treat to see you at your Whole Foods cooking demo. My sister and I adore you and can’t wait for some hands-on classes!

    • Mel says:

Thank you so much for coming to the class! It was great to see a friendly, familiar face out there… and thanks for the sweet compliment!

  • Susan says:

I’m making your velvety butternut squash to take to my sister’s tomorrow. Haven’t tried it yet. Wish me luck!
