Ready For My Closeup

Thanks to my Roller Derby days, I had the great good fortune to appear on both Good Morning America and the Today show… in my skates, no less! Both experiences were surreal. I mean, how often does a regular person get to see Diane Sawyer roll through the studio with a skanky rollerskate on one foot and a a Manolo Blahnik on the other?! (All of the details of that fateful day are recounted in my first book Rollergirl: Totally True Tales From the Track.)

No less exciting, but far less dangerous… tonight, I’ll be starring appearing in a segment about paleo on Fox7 News. If you’re in Austin, you can catch it on Fox in the 9:00 hour. If you’re not in Austin, I’m pretty sure the video will be available online, and I’ll share it as soon as I get it in my hot little hands.

To whet your appetite, here are a few snaps from the day Loriana Hernandez showed up at our house with a camera man. ALERT: Astute readers might recognize a good paleo pal lurking in the shadows of one of the photos.

The news van parked in front of our house. Do you think the neighbors suspected it was a piece on something scandalous?!

This is the kitchen where the Well Fed magic happens. It’s somewhat craptastic, no?

I don’t know what I was talking about in this shot, but I was clearly excited about it. It was probably homemade mayo. I look like I might break into dance. Mayo: The Musical.

Then we got down to the business of talking about the food, and the plates got their well-deserved closeups. I made Chocolate Chili; Paleo Pad Thai; a Tuna Salad plate; some on-the-fly trail mix with nuts, coconut chips, and dried cranberries; and a snack of hard-boiled egg, cucumber, and blueberries.

I love salad plates!

This is the view from our living room. Do you see one of my favorite people in the shadows? (Hi, Jude!)

Yes, that’s a parrot made of leather on top of the fridge, next to the Kitchenaid. Doesn’t everybody have one?

Catch me talking and moving on Fox7 in the 9:00 hour tonight! And if you’re not in Austin, but you want to see paleo on TV, Mark Sisson of Marks Daily Apple and The Primal Blueprint will be on Rock Center with Brian Willimas tonight; details here.

And now, a blast from the past. My appearance with the Texas Rollergirls on the Today show…
