Mission 9: Costa Rica

If you haven’t treated yourself to the app Zombies, Run! yet, don’t wait! Get it now; so much fun. And if you are running from zombs, I gotta tell you: Mission 9 is so so so good. The story takes an unexpected, poignant turn, and it’s brilliant. I felt sheer elation at the end of the mission when I finally ran through the gates to Abel. Naomi Alderman, the author of the story (and some badass novels that I’ll be telling you more about soon), did such a good job weaving this tale. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

As if the story and the universe were in collusion, the sky this morning was moody, a dramatic mix of sharp sunshine and massive dark clouds. The waves on the Pacific were small and choppy, making white foam around my ankles as I splashed along. And just when the Zombies, Run! story reached a dramatic peak, one of my favorite running songs was delivered up by my iPod.

Here are a few snaps from the last 12 hours:

I bought the Zombies, Run! app a couple weeks ago. There was some major carnage on my first outing as I was “got” by the zombies 3 times and lost about 75% of my shit. It’s been rainy here, so I have yet to redeem myself. But – tomorrow’s gonna be 75 degrees & sunny…game on, Zombs!

Dude! I finally bought this and it is SO cool!! I was worried that I wouldn’t get the full fun out of it, since the distance that I can run is pretty short right now (I’m learning to do the “proper” barefoot running form), but I use a fast walk as my normal cruising speed and then a run as my “EEK! Zombies!!” pace. I’m in LOVE!!
I’m gonna go for another run/walk today and I can’t wait!!
I hope you continue having a blast on vacation and thanks again for such a great app!

YAY! I’m glad you like running with the zombs. Makes running awesome, right?! Good on you for running barefoot. I really enjoyed going without shoes in Costa Rica, and I’m thinking about getting some barefoot shoes for running on the trail here in Austin. I just don’t know if I can bring myself to go totally barefoot on the hike and bike trail.

      Good luck outrunning the zombs!

You talked me into it, and it was so much fun! I run at a zombie-like pace, but I can walk fast and jog slowly. When the time comes I can put on a necessary burst of speed, though I couldn’t outrun my first zombie mob. Dang. Still, the app kept me moving longer and faster than I would have done on my own, and I can’t wait to go on another “run” (words rarely heard coming from me).

I almost let myself be caught by the zombs the other day ’cause I wanted to see what would happen (and, if I’m honest, I was done sprinting 🙂

Glad you’re enjoying the app! Congratulations on becoming a runner! I used to always say I would only run “if chased.” Now I almost am being chased. HA!
