Smupdate! February 17, 2012

Today is my last morning to hang with the corporate overlords. I’ve got an exit interview with HR, and I need to submit my expenses from my super-awesome client meeting yesterday (7 hours in the car + 3 hours in the meeting + 5 minutes of me presenting = genius). Then I’m having lunch with some of my favorite people and turning in my ID badge. As always, Dave captured Smudge’s reaction to the latest happenings.

This just in: Smudge is standing at the ready and awaiting instructions for whatever happens next.

Congratulations! I went freelance 7 years ago and it’s the best thing I ever did for my career and my sanity. All it takes is cleverness, an eye for good opportunities, people skills, and hard work. You’ve got all those in spades, so you’ll do great!

    • Mel says:

LONDON! LONDON! I predict that next time we see each other, it will be in London, or Paris, or Prague… and that will be way better than across the corporate overlords’ aisle from each other. Hugs to you.

First off Congrats!! I love to hear when people take the leap of faith and follow their dreams!! Go Girl Go!!!

2nd…You have inspired me to learn how to cook! I have always been retarded in the kitchen..My poor husband;) Anyhow I have had health issues and Chris Kresser is helping me with them and he said I needed to get off gluten and was talking about paleo. I am a vegetarian and he said do it but with my eggs and dairy. I came across your site on his. I read your story and thought wow you sound like me right now! I was so pissed that I had to make these changes, it was like wtf am I going to eat. I don’t eat soy and the quorn product I eat has wheat! so I decided I could be miserable or make a stab at enjoying food a new way and try to learn to cook.. I loved the look and ease of your recipes and lots of veggies so I ordered your cookbook. Tonight I made your “best chicken you will ever eat” for my husband, the cumin roasted carrots and some red peppers from nomnoms site. I didn’t have a few spices so I just decided instead of not doing it and freaking out to wing it..bay leaf became basil and I used all the cumin I had on the carrots so the cumin for the chicken became coriander! I was taking for ever and my husband was starving and impatient, I kept saying it will be worth it and hoping like hell you came through for me!! You did lady!! My husband kept saying this chicken is sooo amazing and sooo moist! He is not the kind of guy to b.s me when it comes to his food! If anyone is thinking of skipping that brining process DO NOT SKIP IT!! I loved the carrots too! Anyhow I never write on these boards but felt like I needed to tell you since you are changing my life so much! Thank you!! I am getting more confident in the kitchen and will keep trying your recipes and reading your blog! I also found whole9 from you and can’t wait to hear them at the paleo summit on being a vegetarian and paleo.

    Thanks again!!

oh and Smudge is beyond adorable

KP! YAY! You’re going to be unstoppable in the kitchen now. You did just the right things, substituting where you needed to. You can’t really go too far wrong if you trust your taste buds. I’m so excited for you.

Thanks for taking the time to write and let me know — so fabulous!

Keep us posted on how you’re doing from time to time.
