Gratitude

Things for which I’m grateful today, in no particular order:

1. the Scotch Egg, eggplant casserole, and summer squash I’m eating right now

2. that no one seems to mind that I’m sitting at my desk, eating like an animal

3. the text messages I got from my mom and dad in the last 24 hours

4. that when I got home from my workout this morning, my beautiful husband and my ridiculously cute cat were both there, too

5. Social Distortion’s new record Pain, Death and Love’s Lost Cause will be released in a few months – and I’m seeing Social D three times in November

6. that the moxy-boss taught me how to eat

7. that there are only 6 1/2 weeks between now and our flight to Prague

8. that today’s WOD was a big ol’ learning opportuniy… there wasn’t a single thing in our WOD today that fell into my “good at it” category – not the stretches, the skills, the elements of the WOD… nothin’! – but I didn’t stop fightin’ for it (even though my frustration level was off the charts)

9. it didn’t rain on me while I walked to and from the bus stop

10. you beautiful people are reading my silly list

How about YOU? What are you feeling grateful for today?

Mel, this post makes me so happy. I'm grateful to have a friend like you who reminds me to pay attention to the abundance of good things around me.

    Blake! YOU are very sweet.

It can be hard to remember to be grateful, but I'm trying. And thinksweforget.blogspot is a big help!

I am having Scotch Eggs for dinner tonight and I am grateful to YOU for posting that recipe!

  • Melissa 'Melicious' Joulwan says:

Lydia… awesome! Have you made them before? Lemme know how you like them and if you did any mods. I've tried pork, lamb, and beef. I think the pork with Italian seasoning is the best so far, but I'm eager to try the Chinese five spice powder + broth version when it gets cold outside (in, like, 4 months).

Have a great time in Prague!

My sister & brother-in-law moved there last year & opened CrossFit Praha – go check it out if you want to get in a workout while traveling!

Hey, Erin! I definitely want to work out at CrossFit Praha. We're going to be in Prague for two weeks, so that's at least 4 Crossfit workouts! Have you been? I'm looking for recommendations for restaurants, bars, etc.

Okay, so I just finished wiping my lips from my very first adventure with making and eating Scotch Eggs. Because I had some leftover deviled eggs, I squished two deviled halves together for my cooked eggs. It worked well! I think I liked it better than a plain egg because of the extra seasoning.

I made my own sausage seasoning: salt, cinnamon, ground pepper, dried thyme, and nutmeg. I used the pork-rind crust option. Oh, and HEY! Here's a tip for being able to use mashed pork rinds in your cooking without the temptation to snack: Just grind up the whole bag at once and store it in a ziplock bag in your freezer. Voila! Instant "breading" without the agony of knowing they're in your pantry.

The meal itself was good, but next time I'll leave the salt out of the sausage seasonings since with the pork rind crust it was plenty salty enough!

crossfitting in an ancient European city…. *sigh* sounds like heaven!!

ok, i'm not good at this but here goes:

    1. the tornado warning here in NYC tonight was for naught

    3. i learned how to smash a tractor tire with a sledgehammer tonight

    4. field-grown tomatoes are finally in!!!! i have four perfect ones in my kitchen right now

    5. all the recent crossfit games videos and stuff are motivating me like WHOA

    6. just spent a totally unprecedented long weekend with my family, reconnecting, making bonds stronger, and letting go of old bullshit.

Thank you for prompting me to think about these things.

Prague is a gorgeous city! Check out the bus day-trips to surrounding towns, too – the Sedlec ossuary outside Kutna Hora was my favorite.
