Bataan Memorial Death March: Mission Accomplished

I’m back at the corporate overlords’ desk and feeling many emotions about our Bataan Memorial Death March adventures. I have lots of stories and “lessons learned” to share, but for today, we’ll just have to make do with a few photos.

Thank you to everyone who posted comments, followed us on Twitter, donated to the Wounded Warrior fund, marched with us in spirit, and went on your own hikes to march in solidarity with us. We felt your support, and it kept us putting one foot in front of the other.

Special hugs of thanks and high fives to the members of Team Relentless. We’re a good crew.

Team Relentless at the starting line.

Dave and I between miles 25 and 26. My mouth was smiling, but my eyes were crying. The kind people who took this photo told us that we were “7 houses and a gate” from the finish line…

Mile 26. Just .2 miles to the end. We were tired and sore; that last .2 took us about 6 minutes.

No photos from the finish line – we were too overwhelmed. One team member reported to the medics, and a few of us bolted to the restrooms. Another few just plopped down on the ground.

It's really hard to find something worthwhile to get emotional about in a sterile, carpeted cubicle workspace other than extraordinary violence.

My eyes misted up when I saw this post. I'm so happy and proud of you guys. What an amazing accomplishment and such a beautiful way to give thanks and recognition to the hard work, pain, loss, victory and celebration of those warriors from another time. And how cool that for the weekend, you were joined with them in spirit.

Much love and admiration to Team Relentless–the modern warriors that march every day for their own reasons.

    Love that last pic!

    XOXO,

Thank you, Erin! We had quite an adventure — and yes, it was made very meaningful by remembering the men and women who were forced into such difficult circumstances. How fortunate we are that we have to CHOOSE to challenge ourselves.

But… it wasn't all serious… we had a lot of fun, too. Maybe you'll join us next year?! There's a loose plan under consideration to do the 15-mile honorary march next year. Thinkin' about it…

Blake! Next year, you're going with us. Fifteen miles… easy, peasy.

Dave, there's a reason our Team name is Relentless 😉
