Bataan Memorial Death March: Team Relentless Is Ready

[I’m ready for our big adventure.]

I’ve got packing lists in email, scribbled on scraps of paper, and scrawled on the white board in our kitchen. Tomorrow I’m making trail mix to take on the road and cooking a batch of chili so we have something comforting to eat when we return on Monday as (tired) conquering heroes.

We’ve learned how to wear all of our gear. I needed remedial help with my gaiters.

And we know that Bonita can walk faster than all of us, even wearing this 35-lb. vest.

[Doesn’t everyone wear weighted vests when they go for a stroll?]

We’ve coordinated wardrobes, ensured we have blister first aid (thanks, Bonita!), identified where we’ll be getting post-March grub (thanks, Dave!), and procured a stash of Sunbutter.

We’ve made a new friend we can wave to out in the desert. Hi, Dave!

And we got the good news that Bernie’s mom Diana (who’s pretty rad for lots of reasons, like this one and this one) is marching in solidarity with us. On Sunday, she and “Team Fearless,” a.k.a., her nephews S and G, will be doing a March in California while we’re doing the Bataan Memorial Death March… it’s a multi-state, multi-generational confluence of awesome sauce.

I’ll be live blogging via Twitter while we’re gone. (Good heavens to Betsy Ross! It was painful to type that sentence. I’m not a fan of my iPhone or Twitter or being connected 24/7… but I want y’all to share our adventure so…)

Ahem.

I’ll be live blogging via Twitter while we’re gone so you can see what we see and learn about blisters as they happen! Unless things at White Sands Missile Range are too super top secret, in which case, I’ll tell you all about it when we get home.

The happy Team Relentless…

The mean Team Relentless…

Nothing left to do now but March.

Hi Melicious! I have been following your blog for awhile now (found it from Melissa Byers blog). This is my first comment to you and I wanted to wish you luck on the Bataan! My friends from CrossFit El Paso are marching this weekend as well. I would love to have joined you all, but am doing the CrossFit Level I Cert this weekend in San Antonio. Talk about poor timing! Next year for sure! Hope everything goes well for you and Team Relentless and I admire your dedication!

  • Melissa 'Melicious' Joulwan says:

Hi, Emily! Thanks for posting! YOU have a kickass weekend at your Cert. Good luck! Tell your El Paso peeps to look for us. We'll be wearing the funny outfits 🙂

Post back on Monday and let us know how your Cert was!

I'll be looking forward to the updates!
