The Barbell is Talking About Me

CrossFit Watertown had a really nice blog post yesterday called, “The Bar Tells the Truth.”

I recommend you read the whole thing, but here’s my favorite nugget:

The bar doesn’t lie. You either pull it or you don’t.

The bar tells the truth. And, here’s the really funny thing: It tells the truth when you walk away too. How you leave a failed lift tells more about you than you might ever imagine.

My workout for this morning looked great on paper, and I had high expectations for what I was going to do with it.

Deadlift 3X3
Shoulder Press 3X3

It’s been almost a month since I did heavy deadlift, and I was sure I was going to pull more than last time.

Ha!

Hahahahahahaha!
I lifted the same, and just barely. I mean, I had to fight for that sucker at 165. And last time I did FIVE of them; today I only had to do three.

Shoulder presses were the same story: same weight, blah blah blah.

But now, having read CrossFit Watertown’s post, I’m feeling OK about my performance this morning. Because I walked away smiling. I put in the effort, and then I went home and ate a good breakfast.

Not every day is a PR. But every day we show up and try hard is an A+ day.

I should get back into lifting! Lately I've been so absorbed with running and yoga, that I've neglected the weights at the gym…but I think they're calling my name

I'm proud of you girl. I read the article too and it really made me think about how I handle a failed lift. Never really thought about it much but now that I have, not what I want the bar saying about me.
