Send in the Clean-Up Crew

Way back in, like, April or so, Dave and I started making summer plans. We didn’t intend to go crazy with the fun, it happened by accident. Our vacation, my family visit… an American Idol concert here, a weekend to Vegas there… and bam! boom! pow! Fun all over the dang place, but happiness? That calm, centered, energetic, light-hearted happiness I love so much is waving to me from the distance up ahead.

I want my happy back.

Now.

The only way I know to react is to plan. And make lists. And tell you people all about it.

So I put together a refreshed training plan that means I need to eat more. More fat. More protein. More vegetables. I don’t know about y’all, but around our house, we think some unkind thoughts about carbohydrates (even though I love ’em truly). But veggies are magic – packed with vitamins and minerals and fiber and water and ENERGY for workouts. I need more of them!

And I need to sleep more. To the tune of minimum 8 hours per night, 9 if I’m really doing it right. You probably need more sleep, too. Check out Melissa Urban’s post about getting your zzzzzzs.

If I want to indulge in all my reindeer games – CrossFit workouts 5X per week, one leisurely run, and one sprinting day – I have to eat and sleep like I mean it.

I mean it.

For the next two weeks, I’m going to share with you my hours of sleep each night, my vegetable consumption, and my training triumphs and tumbles. Y’all are gonna help keep me honest. In return, I’m inviting you to join me.

Let’s be cave people for a few weeks!

Don’t you want to eat so many vegetables, you’re super vitamin-charged?!

Don’t you want to sleep the sleep of the righteous for 8 hours every night?!

Don’t you want to train like a superhero with good intentions and the muscles to match?

Unlike other “challenges,” I’m not giving you rules for the number of veggies you have to eat or what you have to do for workouts. You make your own rules, you stick to ’em… then comment on my post entitled “Veggies and sleep and training, oh my” each day to let us know how you’re doing.

Let’s do it! Post to the comments RIGHT NOW and let me know you’re in.

You read my mind girl and I'm thrilled about this post.
    It's simple really.
    More veggies=more energy.
    More sleep=more energy.
    More energy=more happy!
I most def need to maximize my energy so COUNT ME IN!!!
Man, sleep is so so so crucial. Reading, "Lights Out: Sugar Sleep and Survival" and is so much more important than we know.
    Let's do this!

    I'm in.

  • Melicious says:

Fantastic! Welcome to two weeks of being cave women!

Catherine, I've been wanting to read Lights Out. I've heard lots of good things about it. Right now, I'm in the midst of Bram Stoker's Dracula, and it's such a page-turner, I had to force myself to put it down… which doesn't contribute to sleeping at all! 🙂

  • Melicious says:

Welcome, Cave Man Dave! Woot! Guess we better stock up on broccoli!

  • Mer says:

    Ook ook!!!!

    That's Cavewoman for "I'm in!!!"

Day 3 of Paleo and still determined. I don't think I've eaten as many veggies in the past YEAR as I have in the past few days! Sad.

But, it's going to change! Starting omgrightnow!

    Ook ook!

  • Melicious says:

Ook Ook, right back atcha, Mer! Welcome. I just hoovered half a cucumber, half a red pepper, half a carrot, and a handful of snap peas. good lordy!

  • Jennifer says:

Alright – I'm in as well. Gotta go find more veggies ASAP.

  • Melicious says:

Nice to see you, Jennifer! WOOHOO!

  • erikajeanne says:

    Ok, I'm in.

  • Melicious says:

Welcome, Erika! We're going to be making good use of your recipes!

  • MelissaG says:

Hey Mel, you know I'm in. Started reading Lights Out the other night. Haven't gotten very far but I'm making it my weekend project.

  • Melicious says:

Sweet! Melissa G in the house.

  • Jen says:

Can I play too? I've been paleo for almost 40 days…but still need to work on the 'some fruit' issue! Which means….yes!…more veggies! And I'm SO bad on the sleep thing! And my goal is to workout LESS. Weird huh?! I was on a week's probation on Crossfit for overtraining and not allowing a shoulder injury to heal. I was allowed back yesterday. Am trying to figure out a level of activity that keeps me sane – but doesn't end up doing more damage than good at the end!

  • georgia says:

I'm in! I'm in! *jumping up and down clapping*

  • Melicious says:

    Badass! Welcome, Georgia!

  • Melicious says:

Welcome, Jen! I know how hard it can be to workout less. Hang in there, sister. Your body will probably be so happy to have the rest.
