Relentlessness: 1 – Mini Snickers Bar: 0

Among the good and not-so-good advice I’ve read about commitments and goals, I found this tasty nugget: A commitment is a big decision to make lots of little decisions.

Not bad, right?

But I like to think of it this way:

Mission 17 is a big decision NOT to make lots of little decisions.

My commitment to Mission 17 means there is no decision to be made about working out, or whether or not I’ll pack my lunch… or if I’ll eat the mini Snickers bar that was just offered to me. When the alarm goes off, I get up. Vegetables are cooked, protein is weighed, lunch is packed.

And my nose… it turns up at the sight of a Snickers bar like the snooty Brits at Ascot rebuffing that adorable Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady.

A mini Snickers can’t do that much damage on its own; it’s just one little piece of candy. But a chink in the armor of a commitment can be a dangerous thing.

And I’ve already decided: all those little decisions are already made.

(Ssssshhhh! Between us friends: I did almost eat the damn thing. For a second, it looked like I was going to consider it, but then I rallied. My Mission 17 armor is still intact. One battle won, many more to go…)

way to go Mel!!!! Temptation is very hard to resist, but ultimately, the feeling you get when you realize you overcame temptation and you KNOW you made a great choice is waaay more satisfying than a snickers bar (granola for me). Hehe. luv ya!

There’s a quote I like that goes “Our resolve is like an arrow already in flight.” Your post reminded me of that quote.
