First O’ The Month Assessment = Angie

According to CrossFit lore, the “girl” workouts are named for hurricanes. As near as I can tell — after a somewhat extensive Internet search — there has not ever been a Hurricane named Angie or Angela. But that in no way minimizes the ferocity of the Angie workout.

Angie
For time, consecutive execution of:
100 pullups
100 pushups
100 situps
100 squats

I committed to attending CrossFit indoor twice a week this month (Bootcamp on Fridays), and I woke up in the middle of the night Sunday, thinking, “Angie tomorrow… Angie tomorrow…” in my sleep-dazed state.

We split into groups: half starting on pullups, half starting on pushups. I chose to start with the pushups so I’d be plenty warmed up when it was my turn at the pullup bar.

10… 20… 30… 40… I chipped away at ’em, 10 at a time, chest almost to the floor, even on the last ones.

The situps felt endless, but not too bad, and the squats were a breeze, thanks to Bootcamp Tabata training.

Why, hello, blue band! I’ve been thinking about you for a while.

I did one pullup on the blue band, turned to Katherine and said, “I will never be able to do a hundred of these with the blue band.”

Seriously, people. Why would I say such a thing out loud?

Why?

I was so mad at myself just then for giving breath to that thought.

Then I counted off 3-2-1-GO! in my noggin, and I started chipping away at them… with the blue band… three at a time. Like this:

Three (gah!) Two (gah!) One (gah!) Rest on the box for 3-2-1-GO!
Three (gah!) Two (gah!) One (gah!) Rest on the box for 3-2-1-GO!

When I got to about 70, Carey told us we had, like, three minutes left. I was having trouble getting my chin over the bar, so I switched to the green band.

Three (gah!) Two (gah!) One (gah!) Rest on the box for 3-2-1-GO!
Three (gah!) Two (gah!) One (gah!) Rest on the box for 3-2-1-GO!

Carey called time at 25 minutes, and I had just 10 little pullups left, so I didn’t quit. The rest of the group stretched, and I continued chipping away…

Three (gah!) Two (gah!) One (gah!) Rest on the box for 3-2-1-GO!
Three (gah!) Two (gah!) One (gah!) Rest on the box for 3-2-1-GO!

Four more! Which I’m not too proud to admit, I did two at a time.

Two (gah!) One (gah!) Rest on the box for 3-2-1-GO!
Two (gah!) One (gah!) TIME!

My time: 26:11

And when I was done, my hand looked like this:
F*ck, yeah, I’m CrossFit.
