Destination: ZOOMA

The ZOOMA Women’s Half Marathon and 5K is on April 4, and I’m fortunate enough to be running the race with some of my favorite people. We’ve got a crew of 10 women heading to the swanky Hyatt Lost Pines to relax, to run either the half marathon and the 5K, and — if we’re lucky — to have a big adventure.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing our team roster and profiles of all of the kickass women in our crew. We’ll be training together on Saturdays, and putting the CrossFit Endurance workouts to the test. I’ll share our Saturday workouts in my blog, and readers are welcome to join us for Saturday morning training. Come on out and play!

Here’s a photo of half the team at our planning get-together last week. Left to right, that’s Devon, me, Jenn, Bonita, and Carla. The fabulous Julie Ward was behind the camera, and missing from the photo are her friends Mary and Kelly, fellow CrossFitter Lauren, and a dear old friend of mine named Bernie. You’ll meet them all soon enough.

I love the way CrossFit Central helps us leapfrog from one event and challenge to the next. Coming up in May: a repeat of last year’s life-changing Spartan 300 Challenge. Between now and then, I’m going to focus on ZOOMA and see if I can exhibit more discipline than I did during the I AM CROSSFIT Challenge.

If I can lose 3% body fat when I half-ass it, what can I accomplish if I tighten the screws? The next five weeks are designed to answer that question.

Today, I’m recommitted to following the Zone seven days a week, minus one indulgent meal. I’m keeping a water bottle and my food log with me at all times, remembering to take my Advocare supplements, and making sure I get at least seven hours of sleep each night. On the workout front, Dave and I are continuing with our pre-run CF workouts and practice pullups, and I’m back on track to attend CF indoor once a week.

Whew!

This week, here’s what I have planned:

Monday: CrossFit Women Indoor
It’s the beginning of the month, so we’ll probably be doing some kind of wonderful/terrible benchmark workout.

Tuesday: CF + CFE
Dave and I are doing both a CrossFit and CrossFit Endurance workout at home. I have a vast library of index cards commemorating workouts from the various Challenges. I hoard them like a squirrel preparing for winter!

Wednesday: Bootcamp

Thursday: EZ run
Three miles around the lake as a sort of quasi rest day; will walk if necessary… plus partner med ball work. Love those cradles!

Friday: Bootcamp

Saturday: ZOOMA training
We’re doing tabata pushups, situps, and squats (tabata = 8 rounds of 20 seconds on/10 seconds off, no rests in between), then running six miles around the lake for time, followed by a bonus of practice pullups at Austin High School. I’ll post a reminder with date and time on Friday in case any of y’all want to join the fun.
