The Truth Is…

The Runner’s World quote o’ the day today reminds me of a story Dave likes to tell about Steve Martin.

Steve was hosting some awards show and the camera panned to a hot Hollywood actor. I don’t remember which one, so just insert the name of your favorite fit, beautiful person. The camera lingered lovingly on his fine form, then cut back to Steve Martin who said, “I do ANYTHING to look like that guy… except eat right and exercise.”

Ba-dum-bum.

My friend Richard wrote a blog post recently about what motivated him to start running. He had complimented a friend about being in great shape, and she said, “It takes work.” Those three words made an audible click for him, and there he was: off and running, literally.

Over the summer, when I was deep in the Spartan Challenge, a co-worker asked, “What are you training for?”

Um… life?

So, finally, the quote of the day:

“This is not about instant gratification. You have to work hard for it, sweat for it, give up sleeping in on Sunday mornings.” — Lauren Fessenden

I agree, with an addendum: And Monday mornings, Tuesday mornings, Wednesday mornings….

And every one of them is worth it.
