Cold. Dark. Again.

It’s 6:48 a.m. and 34 degrees Fahrenheit. The muscles of my abdomen and thighs and shoulders feel as though they’re outlined in glowing red, like the diagram in a commercial for Aleve; it’s been a tough few days of workouts.

According to my schedule, I was supposed to be well into my I AM CROSSFIT workout by now and leaving on my 3-mile run at 7:00.

But as you can see, I’m sitting. Typing. And trying to get my butt up out of the chair and into the CrossFit warmup.

Because it is not warm. It is cold. And dark. Again.

I listened to a podcast on the CrossFit Journal with some hardcore instructor a few weeks ago. Someone in the class asked if he should workout if he’s sore from the previous day. The instructor said something like, “If you’re a fire fighter or work in law enforcement or the military, you don’t know what each day will bring. Your work could be worse than a workout every day, so yes, you should workout if you’re sore.”

I am not a LEO. Or in the military. Or even a cook in a firehouse.

I am a Senior Content Strategist, and I’m pretty sure my day will bring a significant amount of typing and, if I’m unfortunate, meeting and talking.

But renegade rows, lunges, situps, and three miles beckon.

This is the part where I pretend I’m an NCIS agent and my life depends on being in great shape. Because even for a Content Strategist, it kind of does.

UPDATE! THIS JUST IN…

It’s 7:40, and it’s light outside (and quite lovely, actually). I finished the I AM CROSSFIT workout without scaling, and now I’m heading out for a 3-mile run which includes the uphill grade of Congress that will start the Austin Half Marathon on February 15.

I AM CROSSFIT workout
3 rounds for time:
20 renegade rows, 10-lb dumbbells
50 walking lunges
50 situps

My time: 19:38
(F*ck, yeah! Squeaked it in just under 20 minutes. Whew!)
