Priorities And Reflection

I didn’t realize today was September 11 until Dave and I were in the car, driving past City Hall. We saw the flower wreath and people in uniform from a distance, and as I was telling him that the WOD on Crossfit.com was to choose your favorite hero workout, it all clicked.

September 11.

It makes what I’m doing today — talking about how to add new products to a client’s web site — seem even more trivial than usual.

When I get home from work tonight, I’m going to do the Murph again. The first time I did the workout, I didn’t realize it was named to honor Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005.

According to the CrossFit web site:

This workout was one of Mike’s favorites and he’d named it ‘Body Armor.’ From here on it will be referred to as ‘Murph’ in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.

So I’m going to work hard doing the Murph tonight and think about all the heroes out there, muddling through the mess, doing the best they can for themselves and others.
