Gotcha Covered

I love cover songs. Social Distortion covering Johnny Cash: brilliant. Alient Ant Farm’s version of “Smooth Criminal”: badass.

The music/pop culture blog Hypeful has compiled covers of songs by Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Prince — 50 for each artist — in honor of their 50th birthdays. Take a listen and shake your fanny!

The Counting Crows re-imaginings of the Madonna songs “Crazy For You” and “Borderline” are pretty great. (It’s surprising how many of the artists have put a melancholy spin on Madonna’s silly pop dance songs.) And I’m a sucker for James Morrison; his cover of “Man in the Mirror” is pretty sweet.
