Our New Project: Strong Sense of Place
My new project is taking all of my attention right now, and I'd love for you to join me for new adventures! It's called Strong...
Read MoreI’m really enjoying the challenge of CrossFit Women. The indoor workouts are tough in an entirely different way than Bootcamp — and I love having the best of both worlds. I still get to hang out with my Bootcamp peeps twice a week and get my dose of outdoor socialization time. And I’ve added the “get tough” vibe and energy of the CrossFit gym to my week.
Fantastic.
Unfortunately, I think Carey was trying to kill us today.
And I mean that in the most positive way imaginable.
I’m guessing that when you see the workout in writing, it won’t look that bad. It didn’t seem bad when I read it on the whiteboard this morning. But it was a monster.
The workout
5 rounds for time
- 10 renegade rows (2 pulls for each pushup), 20-lb. dumbbells
- 20 box steps, 10 R/10 L, one foot on the box the whole time
- 10 power cleans, 20-lb. dumbbells
- run, 250m
*Note: We were originally supposed to do to seven rounds, but when Carey saw how long it took us all to bang out one, she reduced the number to five. I was both relieved and sad.
OK. The renegade rows were, like, impossible. Alroght, not impossible but really, really, really, ridiculously hard. They brought me to my knees a few times — but only to rest. Sadly, I had to scale a bit and do my pushups with hands on the floor, then the pulls with the weights. But I stayed on my toes the whole time, and got pretty low.
The box steps were like my old Reebok step workouts times a million. The power cleans actually felt really good, but the running intervals… Oh, the run. Poor, poor running intervals. They must suffer from low self-esteem because everyone hates them.
My enthusiasm and pace during that tiny, little, unassuming 250m run dwindled during the five rounds. But I did my best to hustle.
