What’s In A Name? Thrusters, It Turns Out

This morning at CrossFit Central, we did a workout called “Lizette.” It was named for a member of another CrossFit Women class who is, according to all reports, kicking ass and taking names with her training. I wonder how she feels about her name being associated thrusters, a movement I’ve previously declared my arch nemesis.

This is Lizette, not doing a thruster. Lucky girl!

The elite weight for the workout was 30-lb. dumbbells. I considered going for it, and my ego was definitely urging me to do it. But my right shoulder was quietly whispering, “Please don’t.” So I opted for 25-lbs. dumbbells which was plenty challenging (and kept my right shoulder quiet).

Lizette
For time:
800m run
21 DB thrusters
21 situps
400m run
15 DB thruster
15 situps
200m run
9 DB thruster
9 situps
My time: 14:57

I was SUPER excited when I got back from the first 800m run and had done about two thrusters and Crystal yelled, “That’s four minutes, ladies!” I did the 800m run in under four minutes?! That rules! That is wicked fast for me. Thank you, heavy deadlifts, for making my little legs to faster.

Thrusters continue to top my nemesis list, but I also love them because I know those little f*ckers are hard because they Work and they’re Good For Me.

One might think that was the end of the workout. One would be wrong.

4 rounds:
12 box jumps
15 wall ball, 12 lbs.
9 spiderman pushups

I couldn’t even acknowledge that I was tired. I just got some water and kept moving. I was vaguely aware that the spiderman pushups were Hard, and that wall ball still sucks, and that I really do love box jumps now. But mostly, I was just a moving mass of cells without much conscious thought. And that’s just how I like it.

I finished: 2 full rounds + 12 box jumps before we ran out of time

Then I ate sweet potatoes and scrambled eggs like an animal. THAT is the way to start the day.

This morning was sooo fun! I can't believe I actually consider running and thrusters fun in any combination, but this one rocked. Go Cat Burglars!

The best part of that post…"sweet potatoes and scrambled eggs…" YUM!! For someone who loathes thrusters as much as you do, it's pretty fantastic that you go for elite or near elite weight. That, my dear, is righteous!
