Spa(ish) Week: Day 4 Recap

From July 22 through July 28, I’m going to make it my job to be as fit, healthy, and well-rested as I can be. Because I’m curious… How much time does it really take to make health and well being our number one priority? And how much awesomer will I feel if I do it?

Day 4 Recap

On Day 3, I spent my morning walk chatting with my dad on the phone, and today I had the pleasure of visiting with my mom (via iPhone, of course) while I made my way around the lake. I love that walking frees me up to have a virtual visit with my favorite people! Then I spent a big chunk of time in the kitchen making Chocolate Chili, prepping piles of veggies, and testing a new recipe.

Movement
1. Walk 4 miles
Done!

2. Meditation
Done! I enjoyed 23 minutes of Jack Kornfield’s sitting practice. Kornfield’s recommendation is to label pesky thoughts that distract from staying focused on breathing. I mostly have trouble with “planning” and, sometimes, “itching.”

Food

Breakfast: grass-fed ground beef, diced sweet potato, broccoli, coconut oil

Lunch: smoked salmon, homemade tartar sauce (mayo+scallions+minced pickles), carrot, cucumber, red pepper, strawberries

Dinner: tossed salad, green beans with olive oil & garlic, Chocolate Chili, cherries

General Well-Being & Random Thoughts

I slept great last night and felt pretty good physically today. Unfortunately, my to-do list feels very heavy this week, so I’m mildly anxious and in rush-rush mode. I’m hoping to dial it down a little tomorrow and be more like Smudge. This kitty knows how to chill.

On deck for Day 5 today:

Strength training
Walk 4 miles
Meditation

plus… more writing, testing another new recipe (fancy beef stew!)

Do you find it hard to eat fatty and meaty in the heat of the summer? It’s 95+ degrees where I am and it’s challenging to eat any greasy fatty meat, mayo, or oil…it’s just so heavy when it’s hot out! I have been sticking to lighter things like fruits, salad, steamed greens, almond butter and sparkling water for my spa week. Any tips? Help!

Sorry, I NEVER have trouble eating. Ever. But I also keep my house at about 75 during the day and 68 at night, no matter what the temp outside.

Some good hot weather protein sources are cooked chicken eaten cold, canned sardines, smoked salmon (eaten at room temp), cold steamed shrimp.

I like this spa(ish) series quite a bit! I would also like to add that I too have no problem eating yummy, fatty meat in the summer. However, on days when the heat is really bad, I also rely on hard boiled eggs for protein.
