Sometimes You Just Gotta Sing

For the near future, I’m doing double workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I hit Crystal’s CrossFit Women indoor class at 5:45 a.m., then meet Dave for a run around the lake at 7:00. This two-fer thing is sort of a personal experiment. How do I feel physically? What do I have to eat to be energetic? How is my mood affected? What’s the effect on my progress?

Last week, I kinda ran out of gas on the run, so in between workouts this Tuesday, I ate half a banana chopped in pieces and mixed with a tablespoon of Sunbutter.

The beginning of the run was sluggish. I even stopped at one point, took off my headphones, and said to Dave between pants, “I don’t think I can do this.” But I wanted to try, so I re-started my watch and iPod. About 10 minutes later, I swear I felt that food kick in. My legs felt powerful, my heart was light… I just sang along to my iPod and enjoyed feeling my feet hitting the ground. I might have even passed a few people like this: vrroooommm!

Tomorrow, I’m eating an entire banana. I know! Crazy, right? A whole banana AND 1.5 tablespoons of Sunbutter. Look out world!

AND… instead of a leisurely run around the lake, Dave and I are doing a CrossFit Endurance workout: cover 1 mile doing :20 sprint/:10 recovery. It sounds like it could be really, really hard.

I like it!

Speaking of really, really hard… this is the workout Crystal threw at us on Tuesday morning. Man-makers, lovehate you so.

AMRAP 20 minutes:

  • 8 man-makers, 20-lb. dumbbells
  • 20 broad jumps
  • 250m run

6-lb. med ball w/partner:

  • 20 R tap+L tap+overhead situp
  • 10 L tap
  • 10 R tap

What are you doing in your training that has you excited right now? Share in comments and spread the love.

I Went Running Today

Even when I did it all the time, I never became a very fast runner. But man! I loved running. Even when I hated running,...

Doing a workout that was 5DL's at our max then 10 burpees, for 5 rounds. My max DL weight had just reached bodyweight (165) the Friday before this Monday morning workout, and I documented it using your defined term, Frexcited. And I finished 🙂

Most mornings I do Kettlebells and then the CF warm up and WOD. Then Monday-Thurs and Sat I also teach spin or pump classes at a globo gym. Two comments on this post:

    1) Last Wed I started teaching back to back high intensity spin classes. The first time, I started to lose steam ten min into the second class. I had to dig deep and pull out another 50 min of kick butt enthusiasm and pain for my class, but I did. I talked to my CF buddies and they recommended the banana also. So yesterday, I hopped off the bike after my first class and shoved a banana down my throat, along with a coconut water (mega-potassium combo, which my calves needed. They were already cramping on the bike, since we'd done 60 thrusters and 165 burpers, among other things, the day before!) Hoped back on the bike and HAD MORE ENERGY the second class than I did the first. And that's saying something! So yeah bananas! And I totally agree on how decadent and slightly sinful it feels to eat an entire banana!

2)Double workouts are great! Just make sure to listen to your body and rest when you need to. I was put on Crossfit probation today by my trainer and sent home WoDless. I'm have an amazingly stressful and horrible week, and though I'm so proud of myself for not turning to food, as I have for most of my life, I'm apparently turning to my new addiction, exercise, instead. So I got a much needed lecture on overtraining and recovery and then they booted my butt back home (where I proceeded to clean the garage – but don't tell them that. It was a much better option than sitting listening to sappy ass songs and crying!) ; -)
