Rants & Rave: 25 April 2020

We could all use some happy distractions right about now, right? Here are some of the things I found online lately that made me happy. Hope they make you happy, too.

Over at my new project Strong Sense of Place, my husband David and I shared a short message from coronavirus quarantine — plus,  6 Literary Role Models to Help Us Endure Quarantine with Grace and Humor, a story about the 800-year-old book called  The Devil’s Bible, photos of fika in Sweden, and my favorite book- and travel-related links.

I thoroughly enjoyed the TV show Agent Carter (RIP), and this deep-dive into its fashion is a lot of 1940s fun.

You’ve probably seen these videos, but I would hate for you to miss them. Actress Mary Neely recreated numbers from musicals, and it’s exactly the joy we need right now. Her rendition of Beauty and the Beast deserves all the MTV Awards and an Oscar.

The best condiments to have your pantry.

I am intrigued by this: Could You Pass the FBI’s Official Fitness Test?

How about a fruit and vegetable quiz that will guess your age?!

A BBC weatherman + surprise drum kit = so much happiness.

When I was a kid, my parents drove my little brother and me from Pennsylvania to Florida in the winter to go to Disney World and just about every roadside attraction along the way. (Hello, Weeki Wachee and South of the Border.) The general vibe of these vintage photos of restaurants with amazing views out their windows reminds me so much of those road trips.

Finally, one of my readers (Hi, Dawn!) sent me this video with a recipe for Anxiety Soup. It’s so well done — the delivery is a deadpan delight.
