Whole30: Day 3

From June 1 through June 30, I’m participating in the Whole30 clean-up/change your life/heal thyself plan. (Here’s why.)

Oh, kids. Day 3. Not so great.

FAIL! I planned to go to CrossFit Women with Coach Crystal this morning, but I slept so little and so poorly last night – and, honestly, wore myself out crying yesterday – that I decided rest would be better than working out.

Semi-fail. I’d planned to go grocery shopping last night after work because the cupboard was mostly bare from being in PA all weekend. But the corporate overlords conspired against me. I worked late yesterday and found myself at the grocery store at 7:00 p.m. – STARVING, cranky, and crying. Recipe for disaster…

I eventually rallied and finally ate dinner at about 8:00 p.m. – happy cow hamburger patty, beet tops with coconut oil, green beans… daytime yesterday was kipper snacks and cucumber salad (times two), a few almonds, tuna salad, jicama, and green pepper strips.

FAIL! I fell asleep at the reasonable hour of 10:00 p.m. and woke up at 2:30 a.m., wide awake. My legs were hot, then I was cold. Smudge was doing her kitty WOD. I watched-snoozed through two movies, read for half an hour, and finally gave it up at 6:00 a.m. Running on fumes now. I blame being a girl.

Need to take better care of yourself? Here are some guidelines you might find helpful.

The first week is always the hardest! I actually went scavenging for chocolate during lunch today and then remembered. Now I'm battling against cookies in the break room.

But we're strong! We can do this!

  • meghan says:

I don't like to hear about hours spent crying. That is, I'm glad you are being honest and telling us about it but I wish you didn't have to go through whatever it is that's putting you through agony.

  • Melissa 'Melicious' Joulwan says:

Lory –> Don't let the sugar get you!

Meghan –> Thank you. I wish there were less tears, too, but I'm a big ol' crier and it's very cathartic. It is also very tiring, though. And, I think, harder on the people around me than on me 😉

  • Meagan says:

Hopefully you'll be so tired you'll sleep through the night. Grief works weird ways on the body.

And, for a little pep talk: GOOOOO MELISSA!!! YOU'VE GOT IT! Just get back up on that crossfit horse and give a good "hiyah!" Maybe taking the metaphor a little far…

  • Melissa 'Melicious' Joulwan says:

Thank you, Meagan! I love my personal pep talk!

I hope I sleep tonight, too. The double-whammy of grief and monthly hormones is really, really not fun.

  • Melissa says:

Recognizing that you need a rest and therefore not working out is not a training fail, it is being smart and taking care of yourself.

As for the Whole30, I've been on Day 1 all week. It's frustrating but I keep seeing this picture of a totally awesome chick holding a sign that says something about not quitting and I get up and try again 🙂

Keep up the good choices and hang in. Hugs

  • Melissa 'Melicious' Joulwan says:

You got me, Melissa! Touche! Love it.

Keep trying on the Whole30. All you need is one solid day to kick it off.

Thanks for the hug – right back atcha!

(I took a rest day today, too. HA!)

  • Danni says:

    I see no failures there!

  • Melissa 'Melicious' Joulwan says:

Hey, Danni! Nice to 'see' you.

I know. Poor word choice. I don't really think I failed — and I love that y'all are totally calling me on it. Well done!
