Backyard Workout: Pullup Ladder

During the I AM CROSSFIT Challenge, Dave and I added CrossFit workouts to our Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday runs. One of the lasting changes from that focused 6-week effort is that our “bonus” workouts are just part of our routine now.

Which is how I ended up in the backyard this morning, looking at my new pullup bars built by CrossFitter Atticus Rowe. They’re AWESOME! I can put my band around them and kip to my heart’s content. Check out Back Yard Fitness and get some pullup bars of your own! All the cool kids are doing it.

Dave was up really late last night working on a deadline, so I had to do my training solo this morning. It was hard to get started, but then it was kinda fun… in that breathless, painful way.

My workout
10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 reps:
pullups
pushups
dips (feet on med ball)
200m run

My time was slower than when we did this workout at women’s indoor (I came in at 31 minutes this morning), but a) I think my run today was longer than 200m; b) it’s so much harder alone!; and c) I did a handful of really nice pushups: tummy, chest, and nose touching the ground with my elbows folded back like little bat wings. I can’t promise yet that I’ll do all my pushups that way, but I will do at least five every workout and keep building up.
