Survey: Weigh In On Our Next Cookbook

When Dave and I were sweating the details of Well Fed last summer — both literally, while taking photos in the 100+ degree temps of Austin and figuratively, wondering if Well Fed would be a success — he warned me that someday, we’d forget all the hard parts and want to do it again. He was right! We’re going to do it again.

The follow up to Well Fed will probably hit the world in the fall of 2013, which means I need to start creating some new recipes very soon. Like, now. My plan is to share some of the first drafts on the blog, just like I did with many of the recipes in Well Fed, so by the time the book rolls around, they’re well tested and kitchen ready. That means you will get to enjoy sneak previews of some of what’s to come.

But before I can start scheming and chopping and stirring and writing, I need to settle on the theme of the cookbook, and I have two ideas that I love. That’s where you come in.

Please take this quickie 4-question survey to share your thoughts on Well Fed, version 2.

Thank you… for playing along with our survey, for always inspiring me, and for (virtually) keeping me company in the kitchen.

Timeline? How long does it take to put together a cookbook? Are we talking a year?
Can’t wait no matter when it is…I could cook for another year out of Well Fed no problem… :o)

    • Mel says:

Hey, Andrea. We’re aiming for fall 2013 for the next book. It should only take us about 6 months to produce, but I have two other books I need to write first.

  • Meghann says:

OMG! I just cried a bit when I read this. Soooooo exciting!!!!!

  • Kelly says:

I hope I can wait until Fall 2013! In the meantime, I will gladly test the new recipes.

Last night I made your citrusy carrot & radish salad. DELICIOUS!

This may be way out there…instead of a BOOK that is timely and costly, why not make a ‘ring binder’ type of book and then as recipes are increased, people just pay to download it or print it and put it into the binder? The print out can be a smaller size that we would just cut to fit.
Would make $, and would get the info out faster to your readers.
Like an INTERNATIONAL section since many people live or work or are stationed all over the world. For example, in Tunis, they have mechouia, that could be made anywhere.
Wish NO MICROWAVE suggestions…coconut oil can be warmed in the oven while preheating the oven
The MUST BUY ORGANIC tip for fruit and vegies
You could probably gets LOTS of your readers to submit some great tips
I would tell them NO TILAPIA, or pass on some helpful cooking tips.
    Just a thought or two…

Hello! I filled out the survey, but forgot to add that I’d also like to see a dish using organ meats: kidneys, sweetbreads, liver, bone marrow, etc. I frequently use those ingredients in my cooking and would like to see your take on it (yes, I did enjoy the crispy chicken liver recipe that you somewhat recently posted). Thanks!

  • Bon says:

I have a little crush on you. 2 reasons. Well Fed has changed my Paleo life and I think you may just love Jane Eyre as much as I do (PLUS we have the same favorite film adaptation). Your pretty much awesome and the thought of a new cookbook by you makes my day. Whoop!

    • Mel says:

Wow. So much awesome in this comment. Thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying Well Fed.

I was just looking at my bookshelf to pick out my next read, and I was really tempted to dive into Jane Eyre again. Maybe I’ll watch the movie instead 😉

  • Sallie says:
