Friday Flashback: Careful What You Wish For…

I’ve been blogging here since 2008, and – if I do say so myself – there’s some good stuff in my archive that you might have missed. On Fridays, I’m going to take you on a Friday Flashback and point you to some good stuff from the checkered past of The Clothes Make The Girl.

Friday Flashback: Careful What You Wish For…

Originally posted on July 29, 2009, I’d completely forgotten I ever wrote this post. It’s all about an email I sent to my old coach Carey Kepler at CrossFit Central about my desire to lift heavy weights.

What makes me feel tender toward past-Me is how clear it is from this blog post that I was completely anxious about lifting heavy and how much I had to learn.

Here’s a snippet:

There are three reasons I want to try a workout like that… It scares the crap out of me, it’s been too long since I did some new, scary stuff… and I want to see what it feels like to get strong.

Fast forward two years: I still have a lot to learn, but the barbell and I are a team. We are demon fighters.

If you’re at a place right now where you’re intimidated by something in a workout or your frustrated with your progress, take heart! It often feels like learning and adapting take way, WAY too long, but if you keep working at it, you will improve. You will learn. And then you’ll take on something else that’s new and frexciting.
