Eat Your Vegetables: Romanesco Broccoli

I saw this across the aisle at Whole Foods and had to have it!

Whole Foods advertised it as “Italian broccoli,” but Wikipedia identified it as Romanesco Broccoli. It’s a variant form of cauliflower that’s high in vitamin C, fiber, and carotenoids. On the scale of flavor with broccoli on one end and cauliflower at the other, it’s in the middle — kind of mild broccoli.

I steam-sautéed it until it was just tender, then sautéed it with some cooking fat and garlic. It turned into a delicious dinner when I tossed it with sliced black olives, quick Italian sausage (ground turkey mixed with homemade Italian Sausage Seasoning), and diced tomatoes.

My recommendation: Try some Romanesco Broccoli!

    We got some of this broccoli in our CSA and I had never seen it, but I loved it!! We pulled it apart and then roasted the florets in the oven with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a bit of minced garlic. 425*F for about 20 minutes. It held up really well as leftovers too. Thanks for sharing your find!!
